I've just brought a 1998 pugeot 306 meridan (petrol) she runs fine except whe slowing down when she sounds like a cross between a motobike and a train theres no shaking or jerking it's just I'm not sure it should sound like this I had a 406 deisel befor so Im hoping that why it sounds so different ( the product box wouldn't let me put in my car)
Can be the gasket between the front exhaustpipe and the catalytic converter its made so it can moove and still silence, but it has a gasket that wore out after time, and the Peugeot 306 can also have cracks in the front exhaust pipe causing different variations in sound, especially around the lambda sonde and the mounting flange.
Check the exhaust if the cat converter has let go these cars get very noisy you can check the cat by banging on it and checking to see if it rattles if it rattles it is no good.
i have just bought a 306 peugeot estate and it is making a noise if it is catching and it is using a lot of petrol what can i do
