I have a 96 mercury villager, and the ac is blowing cool, not cold in the back and warm in the front. I have charged the system, but still no luck. The lower line from the firewall to the ac is hot, very hot. The upper line is ambient temp to warm when running. I am at a loss as to what the problem could be. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like you a have a problem with the blend door. could be a bad blend door motor or something is stuck keeping it from moving.

yes it sounds to me like the thermostat control on the dash is malfuctioning. either that or heater control valve under the dash that converts the flow of air around or through the heater core could be stuck in heater mode. hope this helps. i dont know your financial situation but if it was me i would aquire one from a salvage yard in order to test because that part is quiet expensive from the dealer

needs re-gassing because one line should be hot (feed) and the return cold , This is a specialist job do not attempt to do it yourself because its extremely dangerous with very high pressures involved

Chec your cooling fan relays, they control the on/off
