I have a ford windstar 2000 LX This is the story : We un hooked the batterie to be able to get the broken radio out and we tapped the wires so they dont short circuit. We hooked back the batterie like before. We started the van and it started but shot off seconds after and never started again. But the lights in the front light up even doh the key is not in the ignition. We tried to boost it nothing. Please help me going out of my mind to try to find solution. Called Ford won't answer me at all or recomend me anything.
Hi,
Ok first you need to make sure that the battery was put back in correctly. Positive terminal to positive battery cable. Then if that is correct, check the main fuse's right next to the battery area, they are large and square ensure non of these are broken, or fused.Check all the fuse's in the other fuse box in the engine bay area and also inside the vehicle.
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks
Jason

also check to see if anti theft light is flashing some of them will disingage the starter

TRY TO START THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL IF IT STARTS YOUR NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH HAS MALFUNCTION, OTHERWISE ITS MORE THAN LIKELY THE STARTER, TRY BOTH KEYS ,THE COMPUTER COULD HAVE LOST THE CODE IN THE KEY
SOURCE: 2000 ford windstar won't crank over, but pats keys good, and batt.
First thing I would check is to see if you have power at the trigger wire of the starter motor while someone is trying to start the vehicle for you. It will be a Yellow with a light blue trace. If you do then I would check to see if the main battery cable has power to it all the time when someone is trying to crank it. If it does then I would hold a test light on the case of the starter motor and have someone try to crank it. Make sure that the ground you use for this test is on the negative battery terminal not just anywhere on the car. If the test light lights while you are cranking it then you have a bad ground. Hook up a set of jumper cables from the battery negative terminal and clamp it directly on to your starter motor and see if it starts. If you check it and the test light doesn't light up and all the other checks are good then your starter motor has failed. If one of the other tests has failed then you have a starter relay problem or something else. let me know what you find out.
Might be your ignition switch, or a fusable link from you battery. The switch makes more sense but i have no idea why it would screw up while you were driving. Usuall y that happens when you're starting it or shutting it off.

have the van checked for proper fuel pressure, also have the electronic engine control odule checked for trouble codes.
