Check the IAC (idle air control) valve...disconnect electrical connector and remove it, usually two torque screws...clean it by spraying mass air flow cleaner on it including spring and pintle...spray it liberally..wipe straight down with a clean rag. Try not to turn the pintle..the pin inside the spring..if you do, it will auto adjust anyways, just take a bit longer...replace it and connect connector...go for a 10 minute drive...just saved yourself $200..take about 15 minutes...cheers

Good guess Christina351...

I was just in the process of writing a HUGE sympathy
note...

Assuming you have the 5 liter V8... (??)

your parts listings show you have a HYBRID system:
Rather than get trashed gain by the IAC/TPS answer
(ahead of me
(and lose another 20 minutes looking up PARTS))...

I'll simply say TPS (nah)...

You are having CHOKE ... IAC or Fuel Injector
seal issues... (depending on CARB options)
More Information for DORMAN 90101

Totally FREE Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)
are available here (ps circuit drawings
(registration is required... these are real documents).
BBB Industries Premium Alternators Starters Power Steering Products

Comment me back... after looking at CHOKE equipment).

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1994 Buick Lesabre service engine soon light. Can't read code.

I found several shops in my area, Albany, NY that had the older code readers. It worked fine, and cost me $30.00. It showed a bad O2 sensor that I replaced myself. I suggest you go to a reliable shop. Auto Zone/Advance etc.. do not have the right code readers. Joe

SOURCE: i have a 89 buick park avenue ultra. my

If the trans.oil is dark brown in color and smell's burnt your tranny is probably on it's last leg.If tou have bad pump pressure or low oil you will have to rev the eng to get it to build enough pressure to move.Your detent cable or kick down cable is for passing, when you step on the gas when passing someone this cable is pulled causing the trans. to go into a lower gear and when you let off the gas it should shift back into a higher gear.if it's out of adjustment it will kickdown to soon or to late.If your car has alot of miles it may be in need of a filter and fluid change, but usually when slipping occures its to late and you will need a replacement tranny.Hope this was helpfull.

the transmission breaking apart but in a really slow way. There's not a thing that can be done to save it. It's going to someday give out. You can prolong it by not punching on the pedal to test it. just drive it normally and DON"T get the trans oil change. Just leave it alone... I own 89 P/Ave 156,000 original owner. Same thing happened to my car and picked up a used trans at junk yard and my mechanic installed it and runs like a baby at half the price(700.00). If you go to junk yards half of the park ave are because of trans. Good luck

O2 Sensors only reads Oxygen Content in Exhaust
Converter,so forget that persons advice in the future

The O2 Sensor info is for adjusting fuel trim or injector
pulse timing,not your problem

You change front upstream O2 sensors at 100,000

Removing water pump clutch

You need to rent/borrow a fan clutch wrench remover set. They are large skinny wrenches that hold the bolts on the fan so it doesn't spin, while loosening that large nut. Sometimes you can monkey around with strap wrenches and crecent wrenches, but thats no fun. Kragen/Oriely's rents the tool for a $89 deposite. Return when done, and you claim back all your money. Yay! free toolls.

My buick seems to start with a rough idle but cleans up and runs good, sometimes it is hard to start and i have to finesse the gas pedal till it cleans up!!

there is a fuel pressure regulator located on the fuel rail. it is round and silver colored and will have a rubber hose coming out of the center of it. Remove the rubber hose and see if fuel comes out of the regulator. if it does replace it.

If it doesn't than you'll need to check fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. If fuel pressure does not hold steady and falls rapidly than you may have a bad fuel pump.

If you have any questions let me know and I'll be happy to help.

89 buick century idling ruff when started, and fan comes on right away even though car is cool, but drive ok ones you get going? Ive got a code 22/ 42 Thanks so much

You need to determine why the fan is on (stuck relay, bad sensor etc.) If it remains on, the computer keeps engine controls in "cold-start" mode and will not operate properly. (re-check codes after the fan works right.)
