Changing the headlight in a '02 Mazda tribute

How do you get the bulb out? Do you have to take off the rubber boot first? Just pull off the 3-way electrical connection? Turn it/twist it? Thanks. Bob

The bulb is actually very easy and straight forward to replace.

If you are replacing one bulb, I suggest doing both at the same time and a twin pack is less than buying two packs seperately.

  • Removal
  1. Holding the connector on the sides squeeze and pull back away from you.
  2. Once the connector is removed, gently pull the rubber boot back.
  3. This will revail a snap type of clip. NOTE bottom of clip does come off. Push each top side of the clips towards you to relase them.
  4. Once the tops of the clip are undone let the clip swing down.
  5. slide the bulb out of the lens.
Caution DO NOT TOUCH THE NEW BULB WITH YOUR BARE HANDS. THE BODY OILS ON YOUR HANDS CAN CAUSE THE BULB TO GET HOT SPOTS AND BURN OUT QUICKLY.
  • Install
  1. To install the new bulb ensure the three keys are properly aligned with the lens when installed.
  2. Install buld into lens.
  3. Place clip over bulb.
  4. Place boot over bulbs making sure it is fully engaged into lens.
  5. Push connector back onto bulb.
  6. Check lights to make sure everything works.

There can be slight variations in procedure from one model to another when replacing headlights. For instance, on some models the turn signal light assembly must be removed before the headlight can be replaced. Overall, however, the procedure does not differ much from the following typical instructions.
Make sure the replacement bulb is the same type and part number as the one that is being replaced.

Comparing the old and ther replacement headlamps.

To Replace:

  • Remove the headlight bezel retaining screws. Remove the bezel. If necessary, disconnect the turn signal lamp wires.
  • Remove the retaining ring screws from one or both lights.
  • Remove the retaining rings.
  • Remove the light from the housing. Disconnect the wiring connector from the back of the light.
  • Push the wiring connector onto the prongs at the rear of the new light.
  • Place the new light in the headlight housing. Position it so the embossed number in the light lens is on the top.
  • Place the retaining ring over the light and install the retaining ring screws. Tighten them slightly.
  • Check the aim of the headlight and adjust it, if necessary.
  • Install the headlight bezel. Secure it with the retaining screws.
  • Connect the turn signal lamp wiring (if it was disconnected).

Replace headlight bulb

1. Pull the wire and socket off the back of headlight bulb.
2. Remove the rubber boot behind the headlight
3. You will see a wire clip that secures the bulb in place
4. With one finger, you can push the wire down and pull it slightly away from the bulb. You should now be able to pull the bulb out.
5. The new bulb will have to be spun until it's situated in the same way as the old one came out. (Do NOT touch the glass part of the bulb when you install it or it will almost immediately burn out)
6. Put the rubber boot and wiring back on.

How to change a 2004 GMC envoy front light

Drivers side- stick your hand down by the alternator and over behind the headlight. You'll feel a 3" round rubber boot, just pull this off. Twist the bulb out and replace it.

Passenger side- remove the air cleaner top, at this point, you'll have a lot of room to remove the rubber boot and replace the bulb.

The other method is to remove the grill, but pulling on this can break or crack the grill easily, so I choose this way.

How do change a low beam headlight on a 2005 trailblazer?

Drivers side....stick your hand down by the alternator and over behind the back of the headlight assembly. You'll feel a 3" round rubber boot, just pull this off. Twist out the bulb and replace.

Passenger side...remove the air cleaner box, when this is done, you can remove the rubber boot and replace the bulb with plenty of room.

The other method involves removing the grill, but pulling this out can break the grill, it's brittle. So I choose not to do this method.

Replace right headlight bulb 2006 trailblazer ext

Reach your hand down by the alternator, then over to the back of the headlight assembly. There, you'll feel a 3" round rubber boot that just pulls off by hand. Take this boot off, and twist the light bulb out and replace it with a new one.

The other way, is to pull the grill out, and release the little metal latches on the top and side of the headlight. Be careful though, the grill is brittle.

2003 mazda tribute. How to change license plate bulbs. I can't get the plastic housing off.

It's easy, but may need some patience. No need to take off rear door inside panel! Press firmly on the left side of the light housing. It should move towards the right..then pull up slightly and it should pop out from the door panel. Twist the center bulb housing counterclockwise just slightly and the bulb should disconnect from the lense. Pull the bulb out...and replace with new bulb. Replace both sides if you like.

How do I replace the headlight bulbs in my 2002 Mazda 626

if the lens covers are yellow or discolored you would have to remove the lens and they have chemical at autozone or napa that can take care of this problem but to replace the bulb you open the hood and put your hand in behind the headlight assembly and there is a plug you normally turn counter clockwise and the bulb comes out always wipe the bulb off if you touch it with your hand because the sweat from your hand will cut the life of the bulbs

Replacing headlight bulb on a 2003 MPV

I just replaced my driver side halogen bulb in my 2005 Mazda MPV. I took me close to two hours - though the next time will likely take less than half of that. I'm not terribly mechanically inclined.

The instructions above are technically correct - however - here's a few tips.

1) Pull of the rubber boot gently without disrupting the bulb seating. Keep the bulb and clips in place!!!
2) Observe carefully how the metal clips are situated. Putting them back is the hardest part of the job if you don't understand this. The clips will attach at 3 o'clock (hooked part) and 9 o'clock (sqaure part). You might need to remove the screw slightly at 9 o'clock with a stubby Phillips in order for the clip to catch with it. Work the hooked part UNDER the catch at 3 o'clock and it will spring up in place. Trying to force it in proper will only hurt your finger.
3) Remove the small fuse panel first to provide more working room before you begin
4) You'll see a small rectangular hole crimped into the metal of the light base. This is at 6 o'clock (bottom) as you insert the bulb back into the socket. The bulb will rest in place but is easily knock out so mind how you insert the clip.
5) Have patience. If I could do it.. so can you!
