My 96 dodge grand caravan has a 3.8 engine and when we drive it and the motor heats up the van wants to stall out and /or spit and sputter. You can let it cool down about a hour or so and it cranks up fine and runs awesome until it gets hot again..no over heating or nothing. a code of PO300 comes up. Mulpitle misfire. I changed the spark plug and wires and also put a coil packet on it.. Took for a test drive it happened again.. Could you please help me out thanks

The choke function is not working on a cold engine. 1 clean throttle body and IAC motor air pathways. 2. Check for engine codes, you are looking for a code that relatws to the wngine temperature sensor.
not to hard to do it on the ground. youll need a floor jack to raise and lower the engine. dont remove the front motor mount. youll have to remove the cv joints also. a good mechanic can do this job in 3 to 5 hours. its nothing like removing a rear wheel drive tranny.
It on the passenger side of the van. You have to remove the engine mount, a steel plate under that and 3 plastic cover under that. The water pump is ran off the timing belt. Bit of a job to change and you have to mess with the timing.
Before I paid $1500 or swapped engines (nearly as expensive) I would check to be certain the plug heat range is correct, test or change the plug wires, test the ignition coil, check the compression and perhaps do an engine diagnostic.... etc. etc. Incidentally my '93 has a 3.3l.
Check the sensors on the throttle body. There is a sensor that controls air to fuel ratio. If that sensor is bad then the car will run and then stall out while in drive. I had the same problem when it was cold outside last winter. If you dont want to dish out the money without knowing if it is that part at fault or not then start the van pop the hood and located the throttle body. Place your hand on the sensors and give them a little shake and then make sure they are plugged in all the way. You could also turn the van off and unhook the sensor clean the connectors and plug it back in. That should do the trick and if it doesnt stall anymore then I would replace those sensors if I was you. One more thing. If your giving the sensors a tug while the car is running and you hear it going to stall you could located the gas pedal cable and give it a rev or two by hand so it doesnt stall out and turn off.
By the way. You van isnt over heating at all is it?
