Hello, You have two switches which work off the pressure of the Freon. Both of these switches cut off the power to the compressor. One is for HIGH pressure and the other is for LOW pressure. Check for power at the compressor clutch connector harness while the controls are set and the engine is running. You may have power and a bad clutch.

When you say that the Freon pressure is good, does that mean the pressure is within the proper range? Too much Freon will make the HIGH switch cut off power and too little will make the LOW pressure switch cut off power.

The ideal amount(ozs) of Freon is what is recommended by the Manufactuer and it will provide a moderate amount of pressure of about 35psi-40psi. You can borrow pressure gauges, called Manifold gauges to measure your system at autoparts stores with loaner programs.

The low pressure side of the system is the one you use to induce the Freon to go into an empty system. You can bypass this switch by taking off the connector and putting a "U" shaped jumper into the harness and the compressor clutch should get power to LOCK up all of the time.

You can take off the switch connector at the compressor clutch and then check for power when bypassing the HIGH pressure switch if the LOW pressure switch does not make the system get power. Only, really only bypass the HIGH pressure switch with the clutch connector disconnected. The HIGH switch is there to prevent damage to all of the components from seals to lines to every piece of Freon hardware in the car. Bypassing with the A/C clutch disconnected will allow you to know if power is getting to the compressor clutch.

Finally, you can get FREE wiring and fusebox diagrams through Autozone.com. Just sign and register to their site and then you can print the documents for yourself.

Good luck with this repair and I hope my solution helps you.

SOURCE: Electric fan on rad won't cycle.

just finished doing the exact task and i didnt find it to bad 1 hour, remove bullbar/bumper and i was able to remove with a 8mm socket ,angle drive and extension 1/4 drive.
make sure when you replace with new item you thoroughly clean surface before you put your new one on,relay has heat sinc and neads the car body cantact area to help absorb the heat,
If it is dirty and you dont clean it your new relay may overheat .
Also for all Chrysler jeep and dodge owners, PPPPlease stop supporting your local rip off dealer and look for alternatives , I use rockauto.com from america and are more than happy with price and delivery times 3-5 days and usually 1/3 the price unbelivable.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. AC problem. Fan and inside controls have power but compressor clutch not engaging. I am thinking that there may be a relay that is out. Any suggestions for troubleshooting...

The compressor clutch won't engage unless there is freon in the system. Connecting a gauge to the low pressure port should tell you if there is. Pressure in a system that isn't running varies with the outside temperature.

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a a/c problems

Your clutch is not being energized - ergo the compressor will not run - no AC. Get yourself a schematic so you can intelligently trace all of the wiring to your clutch and locate the source of the problem. Afterthought - check out the thermostat setting? That is in series with clutch winding and .............................

2002 pontiac grand prix gt AC only blows hot air compressor full of freon and clutch spinning good temp control actuators working corectly narrow ac tube at firewall very cold thicker ac tube at firewall...

i had same problem 2 years ago. the actuator door tube was snapped in half and i used acquarium tubing to splice together. The tube runs along the passenger front well well inside engine and meets under the battery carriage. I could not tell anything was wrong without removing the battery to get a closer look. works like a champ now.

Also: there is also an inline venturi filter that fits in the aluminum tubing on the compressor, it may be clogged. You will have to have the freon sucked out to replace the filter. Check back with me so I can help more if this doesnt solve your problem.

Ac stop running if engine temperature is high

Your question is a bit hard to follow but I think I understand it. First I believe you are saying that the engine temp gets high at 105f, I think you mean 205f..that is not too high actually but sounds as if the compressor is adding a load to your engine. You need to check the compressor out and it is not an easy task to do. But a simple test is.
ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING!!..sorry just want to be clear, with the engine off and cool, the center part of the compressor operates from a clutch , try to turn it with your hand to see how hard it turns, not real fast you are just feeling the bearings at this point. If it is real hard to turn you should have that looked at but if it is not real hard you may have either a low oil charge or low freon condition in the ac system, local parts stores have a refill kit to check this out, get the one with the coloured guage on it, it will allow you to fill to the proper level. Boy I hope this helps you, ac probs are the worst to fix without seeing it.
If your engine is getting real hot like the 220f region you might want to check your radiator fluid (coolant level and condition) as well as the thermostat, the 6 cyl uses one around 195f . I don't know the 8 cyl one buy you can check the temp of the hoses to see if the thermostat is working properly.
good luck!
