SOURCE: transmission is slipping on 1992 Chevrolet Caprice Classic

Dude.. You need to adjust the TV cable or it is broken. It runs from the throttle to the transmission. It sounds like it is starting off in the wrong gear. All of this is due to that cable man! Have it checked out before it burns the trans out! Also; make sure it is full on fluid, and DO NOT over fill it. After you have driven it for a while, stop on level ground, put it in park, and check the dipstick. check it many times, and go by the low side of the stick. It may read up there on one side but low on the other, and if this is the case it is low. The fluid should show full on both sides of the stick. When changing the filter, there is a grommet type seal that goes up in the valve body, and they are very hard to change without the proper tool to do it with. A common mistake is some people think the old one is out and put the other one in, and have two in it. This will cause all kinds of problems. If that seal gets damaged it will **** air and cause the trans to give problems. Good Luck!

SOURCE: transmission swap

Yes its the same bolt pattern. The frame is drilled to move the crossmember in position for the different transmissions. You will probably have to swap the computer, but the wiring is the same as far as i know. Just slightly different computer signals.

I bought a 92 Chev 2500 4X4 from a guy just recently. He said the tranny wont go into gear. I found the transfer case was in neutral. So i put it in gear and away it goes. But reverse seamed sluggish. ...

If your transmission is a 700r4 (4l60) you have a reverse band that engages when you want to go in reverse. since it drives forward your low reverse clutch and your fwd clutch are working. This leaves the band which was probably slipping now is not engaging.

Trans I.D. by vin code

I can tell you what engine is suppose to be in it by the VIN. I can tell you what transmission you have if you can describe the shape of the bottom pan. As far as the engine that you have that is tough. The engine size should be stamped on the rear of the engine near the distributor near where the engine and transmission meet. Rectangular pan 4 speed= 700r4 Pan like the state of Illinois, 3 speed= TH400 Squared off in front, tapers on both sides to the rear and slopes up to the rear, 4 speed=4L80E These are the only transmissions that were factory installed in a 1992 C1500. If it looks different let me know. You never know what someone has installed.

1992 Chevy Suburban rpms jump at 60+ mph

When the transmission jumps the extra RPM by 200 or 300 RPM. That's your Torque Converter Clutch lock up disengaging or it's slipping. Pull the transmission dip stick out and check the fluid level and condition of the fluid, look to see that it's not burning. If the fluid is not burning then it's the Torque converter clutch unlocking and the Throttle position Sensor may need to be readjusted, or if the transmission is still running off a TV cable. The TV cable may need to be adjusted and or the transmission filter may be dirty and needs to be changed. Take it to a transmission shop and explain to them what the transmission is doing. I'm not sure if your transmission is an 4L80 or a 4L80E. If it's the 4L80E the PCM and ECM control the lock up to your converter. If the PCM detects a problem with the transmission, it drops the transmission fluid pressure to the converter clutch. If it's a 4L80, it's controlled by the TV cable and vacuum lines to the transmission modulator. Regardless they can look in to this when they change the transmission fluid and filter. Recap: Have the Suburban's ECM scanned for any transmission DTC codes. Service the transmission if the fluid is dark in colour and burnt. Adjust any linkage to the transmission that is an issue to it's performance. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.
