Im a mechanic and i will give you the best advice that that i can. when you buy rebuilt motors and heads even from jasper your taking about a 50/50 chance. TRUST ME. but any way it sounds like the bottom half. go to the junk yard walk the yard find one with 80 to 100 on it buy the motor and it will most of the time out last a reman any day. even jasper is a big mistake thats why they only have 30,000 mile warrantys

Any time you put a new or rebuilt head on top of a used motor you are going to get some sort of blow by. the more miles one the Rings the more blow by you will have. when you put on the rebuilt head south the new valves. you increased the compression ratio. thus making the worn rings from being able to hold back all the compression. next time at least drop the pan and put new rings in. better new pistions and hone the cylinders. best pull the block have it bored .20 over (which gives you a 2.0L ) have the crank turned. have the cams inspected for ware. and just replace old with new. yes.its more expenses in the beginning but well worth it. because look were you are now. to fix it you now have to start over with a lighter wallet

SOURCE: car is hard to start, keeps stalling, white smoke coming out of tail pipe

It sounds to me like you have a head gasket leaking. See if you can get a gauge and check each cylinder. Are you using alot of anti freeze?

SOURCE: smoke is coming from the dipstick, 6.5L turbo diesel

Sounds like you have a clogged PCV valve thats the valve that lets the gases that get into the crankcase be rerouted back into the intake. It's silver about two inches and is usually in a rubber fitting in the valve cover and will have a hose on the other end. it's no tools installation just pull the hose off pull it out and replace with a new one. thats the first thing i'd do - 10 mins and 10 bucks should do it

Put new lifters in Xterra 3.3 and now it blows blue smoke and random misfire

no year told
nor if valve stem seals , replaced , can be down heads on with shop air.
PCV not clogged. simple cheap fix.
piston rings bad, are not simple,. ever. nor cylinder scoring.
valve guide super WORN out will make the stem seals fail fast.
(overloads them )
gas in the oil make oil so then, oil rings and stem seals can not to there job.
too much oil in the pan and now foams up bad, overloading all the above.
those are the simple list. not cracked blocks/heads
not bad a valve.
compression tests pass/?

Why this engine won't stop blowing white smoke?

Piston height was ok when assembled?

Yes, and coolant was disappearing after rebuild then I'm guessing the 3rd cylinder hydro locked at start and bent the rod.

Head is removed so the crank should manually bar over with little effort and rotate smoothly and not bind at any point. If a rod is bent it will likely bind up at the same crank position(s) for every rotation.

Engine was knocking but running good not smoking so we replaced the engine with brand new short block from Toyota. Now the truck is blowing white smoke. What could the tech done wrong to cause this? Or...

Take it back. I doubt the short block is bad, but if the smoke persists beyond a day or two, the cylinder head may need removing to check the fit of the head gasket, and to ensure the passages in the head match the block. Does the exhaust have a sweet smell? That could be coolant burning.

Now it is possible that a little spilled coolant may have collected in the exhaust during the engine swap, and that is why you see white smoke. This should burn off in a day or two. If the smoke persists, and the coolant level is dropping, they need to take it back and fix it, at their expense, at least the labor charge. Toyota may have made production changes during the year on this engine, and that is what needs to be investigated. That, and if the head gasket is correctly fitted.

I need to put on my cylynder head gasket seal and my vehicle is blowing out white smoke.is my problem my seal or something else?

in general when car smokes ( white ) it burns the engine lubricating oil this because the sealing rings ( triple for each piston ) not doing their job any more or for another reason the cylinder wall itself due to the continuous friction between wall and seal o rings it creates a very Little gap that allows the oil to enter the combustion chamber and mixed then burned with fuel generating that white smoke and decreasing engine pressure
you will have to replace the cylinder head gasket since you are going to reveal the head to get into the pistons seal o rings
if the cylinder walls got little wider due to friction don`t panic you will get lager seal o rings to skip such a problem

What make my 1993 blazer smoke

there are a few reasons for the engine to smoke. first determine the color of the smoke, white smoke means its burning water...possible bad head gasket or cracked block or cylinder heads. If the smoke is black...means the fuel mixture is to rich, getting to much fuel. If the color is blueish...it is burning oil, meaning the oil rings are worn, and or the valve seals are worn as well. if it smokes when you first start it, and then stops after a few minutes, once the engine is warmed up...probably bad valve seals. if it continues to smoke it is more likely the oil rings. Valve seals being cheaper and easier to repair, where as the oil rings means the motor needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Knocking, overheating, blowing white smoke from the engine (front and back under the plugs), I think the heads are going, any other ideas or things to check?

White smoke tells me coolant is getting into the cylinder's, blown head gaskets or crack heads, have a block test done.

CAMROD THROUGH ENGINE BLOCK 2 WEEKS AFTER CAMBELT REPLACED

The garage will say that they only re-built the head and will only warranty that part.
However they have a duty of care to check that their work covers all aspects of the work quoted for.

Note
Problem is that when a cam belt snaps it can drive two parts of the engine together (Valve and Piston Crown) which sometimes you get away with having a new Valve fitted and other times it puts a hole or a crack in the top of the piston.

This could explain your blue smoke as oil is being burnt off down the exhaust as oil is being drawn into the cylinder.

If the oil level gets too low pressure drops and you can get bearing failures which can lead to con rods snapping.

It is not normal for blue smoke to be emitted after a cylinder head rebuild !!

If blue smoke comes out of the exhaust there is oil being burnt off because of a mechanical problem.

If it is a professional garage they may come to an agreement with you , if it is a hole in the wall then your chances of redress are slim
