Fuse 5 in the box under the hood.

Check for a fuse box underneath the dashboard in the drivers side. Some times there is a plastic lever that needs to be pulled down in order for the fuse panel to swing down. Check your car manaul to see where the dasboard light fuse is located, some times the fuse can be located in the engine compartment where you will find a rather big black plastic box with relays and other fuses. Another fuse box location is found on the passenger side underneath the dashboard or kick panel, better to check the owners manual so you don't have to look into all 3 locations.

When you do find the right fuse block, look for a fuse that is labled Insturment Lights or Cluster Panel, that usually indicates the dashboard light fuse. The fuse used in most dashboard lights is around the 15 to 20 Amp range.

All fuse box locations and fuse ID information is in the owner's manual. If you don't have one go here and download one from the Toyota site.

First thing to do is to check out the fuse for them. If you have your owner guide it will tell you we're and which one it is. If it the fuse and you replace it and it does it again you might have a short in the wiring

There is a shorted wire somewhere in that circuit. Check to see if any wires are pinched under a bracket or brace where he was working. I have seen it where it was a light bulb the was bad. Need someone familiar with a volt/ohm meter to help trace problem. Good Luck. You did not state where he had been working.

check the fuses if not the fuse its the bulb

First, make sure it's not that your dimmer switch has been turned all the way down.
Check fuse 22 and 23. If they're good then you may have a bad ground somewhere. Check the board and fuse box under the battery (yes, I know - but thats where vw located it) for corrosion.
