My 2001 slk recently developed a fault-the abs/engine management light came on and it only runs in first gear. Despite passing it's mot(!) it now has a problem with the roof that is stuck closed (got stuck opening but managed to get it closed) but rear quarter lights will not close so I basically have an unsecured car that only runs in first gear! HELP

1. Try cleaning the front brake senor.
2. Replace brake switch (under dash).
3. Check front brake pads for wear.

first thing I would try, disconnect the battery to the car for a minute, then reconnect it. that may correct your problem.

Most likely one of the pin switches that senses the location of the top for safety goes bad. Usually very cheap to replace. You can unplug them and jumper the wires to bypass to test to see if one are all have gone bad then replace as needed. One is in the trunk on the passenger side. Also remove any debris or personal items from the truck as it may see items in the way and cause a not ready to close top condition.
