How do I replace oil pan gasket on a 2003 Honda CR-V

I keep getting a p1259 error code. I went through some deep water in my Honda. It wouldn't start. It got into the air filter and engine. I replaced the filter and plugs. It says that it is a VTEC system malfunction. It could be one of four things. 1-open or short circuit condition. 2-VTEC Solenoid valve fault. 3- VTEC pressure switch fault. 4- Blocked oil passage. The oil was low. I filled and reset the code. It came up again. Second I don't know how much damage the water could have done in the wiring and to the sensors. Plus now the oil pan gasket leaks. Help with all of the above?

The car had just been started from cold. It was driven 50 feet when we got the water in the air filter and things. It couldn't have cracked anything but rust or corrosion is my worry. I let it set overnight, (after we towed it to dry land). AND do the engines really have to be removed to replace the oil pan gasket? WTH"? Thanks!!!

still water in the cylinders... the block doesnt need to be hot to have damage occur. the extra mass in the cylinder during a compression stroke is enough to blow valve guides and compression rings, as well as the compression od the water along is enough energy to turn it to steam, which can score cylinder walls and cause irreversable damage to the hone. anyways ill try not to get you down about it.. no doubt you know what your doing. you dont have to remove the engine to remove the oil pan. you most likely however will need to knock the motor mounts loose and jack the engine up (lift it with a cherry picker if you can) to allow enough clearance to slide the pan out in between the front end and the block/crankcase. if this doesnt buy you enough room dropping the front end is alot less involved than pulling the motor.

If you ran water through the engine its mostly likely game over, cold water hitting your hot pistons and valves... your looking at fried rings, cracked valves possably a cracked block.... you may have gotten lucky but i have my doubts...

How do I switch a crankshaft

Disconnect the battery. Remove the spark plugs. You will need to remove the engine and transmission from the vehicle (unless you have a lift, in which case you only need to remove the transmission.). Separate the engine and transmission. Remove the flex plate (flywheel). Remove the serpentine belt and crankshaft pulley. Remove the timing cover, timing chain, and crankshaft timing gear. Remove the oil pan. You may have to remove the oil pump for clearance. Remove the rod bearing caps. Keep them in proper sequence. Remove the main bearing caps. Keep them in proper sequence. Remove the crankshaft.

You will need new rod and main bearings to replace those already in the vehicle. You will need a new oil pan gasket and timing cover gasket set. Depending upon mileage and age, you may want to replace the timing gears, chain and guides. You must know all proper torque values for the crank and rod bearing caps, flex plate, and timing cover.

As you can well see, this is not a job for the auto DIY novice.

OBD P1259

It is best to get a code check to confirm the case as this case to be related to many issues and is needed if there is an error shown. Possible problems with the throttle valve, the ECU or the pump.

My honda accord 2003 V6 hiccups when I step on the gas, and the right signals do not work. The code P1259 came up and I was wondering excatly what does that mean?

This is an error code related to VTEC related Honda engines. I am sending you a little reading on that error code.. Best of Luck..

The Check Engine Light (CEL) is on. Trouble code P1259. Tests/Procedures: 1. Locate the Variable Timing/Lift Control (VTEC) pressure switch, on the back of the cylinder block, by the oil filter.

2. The VTEC oil switch is normally closed and grounds the reference voltage from the Engine Control Module (ECM) on the Blue/Black (BLU/BLK) wire.

3. At approximately 4000 RPM, and when driving the vehicle, the VTEC system should turn on. To turn the system on, the ECM energizes the VTEC Solenoid valve and it allows oil pressure into the intake valve rocker arms, the oil pressure opens the VTEC oil pressure switch so the ECM can verify that VTEC did turn on correctly.

4. The code will set below 4000 RPM if the reference voltage is not grounded. The code will set above 4000 RPM if the VTEC oil switch does not open.

5. If the code sets at 4000 RPM or higher, the problem can be a low oil level or pressure, or a malfunction in the VTEC assembly. Potential Causes: Low Engine Oil
Plugged Oil Passage
Insufficient Oil Pressure
Plugged Oil Screen
Insufficient Oil Volume
Malfunctioning VTEC Oil Pressure Switch
Defective VTEC Solenoid
Tech Tips: When the P1259 code sets at 4,000 RPM or higher, always verify that the engine oil level is full. Also, if there is an oil pressure or volume problem, always verify that the oil pan is not pushed up and is too close to the oil pickup tube, causing an oil volume problem. Be very careful when supporting the engine with the oil pan.

VTEC System Malfunction code P1259 in honda acura car what does thi means

P1259 Immobilizer to PCM Signal Error,, ok, first does the car hic up at around 4000 rpm'? what you have here is possibly 2 things with a honda, and that code just happens to pop up for both,, One, change the oil, and 2, you may need to change the Vtec pressure sensor/screen (solenoid),, its located between the Vtec solenoid and the head,, My guess is that your oil is pretty bad, or you just had an oil change, either way ,, clean that sensor,, it may or may not work, if not, you'll have to replace it

Engine light came. Computer sencer said it isP1259

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

P1259 means VTEC system malfunction. Low oil level and a bad oil pressure switch for vtec can cause this. It can also be a faulty vtec solenoid.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

How hard is it to replace the oil pan gasket in a Honda CRV 1998?

That depends on the clearance you have to remove and reinstall the oil pan.  Sometimes components and chassis get in the way and you either have to jack up the engine or remove the offending parts.
Also many newer cars don't use a gasket and only use a quality sealer.   Having a hoist is a definate plus
