BMW 318i e46 locking problem

Hello.

Just recently developed a locking problem on my BMW.
When i lock the car i have to use the key in the lock. I have to turn the key as per normal, not once, but exactly 9 times before the doors will all stay locked. When the key is turned to lock all the doors lock, then unlock themselves until the 9th attempt when it works normally... very frustrating.
Any ideas for a solution?
thanks

I had the same problem and one of the cells in the battery had gone down and the car would not lock as it thought the battery was flat replaced battery and it was working fine again.

I have an E34 BMW 5 series and lost the remote that opened the doors, I went to Adelaide Motors and purchased a new one then had them to get it to work with the alarm. About 3pm that day they phoned me to pick it up and when I went to pay for the work I was told that they could not get it to work and said that there would be no charge. To me this was great, so I sent an Email to head office in Germany saying how well I had been looked after. I then got a reply not just from Germany but Head office here in Australia in Sydney also from Adelaide Motors, thanking me for the feedback. So once again well done BMW.

Hi please help my BMW e46 318i I have replaced the engine. So I tested the car it ran then we drove everything was OK then I switched it of now I doesn't start any more

Either the battery or starter is defective.
Battery with no load should be 12.6 volts or more.
BMW starters usually lasts as the engine life.
If battery and starter are OK, and car won't start, check the remote switch on the car key.
To start a BMW, the on-board computer reads the codes stored in the remote key. Replace dead battery in remote switch in case it can no longer unlock/lock the doors.
Car will not start if shifter is set to Reverse.
Other problems could be diagnosed using scanner.

1998 BMW 318I KEY REMOTE NOT WORKING, HAS NEW BATTERY IT LITES UP BUT DOES NOT AMS ALARM OR UN/LOCK OR LOCK DOORS?

If you have two keys and one does not work, you need to re-sync the keys to the car. If neither key works, then you might have a problem with the electronics. Check on line for the instructions to re-sync the keys

Keyless locking

the key you describe is for illuminating the locks and has no function for remote locking. You will need an aftermarket keyless entry kit to have remote locking. steve
