I would recommend you take it to a shop and have the alternator tested, or take the part off the car and have it bench tested in a store. You may also have a bad fuse or fusable link between the battery and the alt.
This sounds like a bad brake light switch, this switch is located on the bracket that holds brake pedal, you can test for power at switch, also if you remove connector and jump terminals with a wire and see if lights lite, if lights light then switch is bad,
Check the connection at the brake light switch for power comming out to the barke lights, try feeding power to the brake lights manualy using a jumper wire from your fuse box or battery, unplug the wire from the switch and put power to the harness if everything is OK the brake lights will work, then you need a new switch.

Does the 3rd brake lamp illuminate? If so then your problem is multifunction switch. If it doesn't do the following checks.
Check for power to and thru the brake lamp switch itself. If you do not have power to the switch check fuse no. 10(20 amp) in the interior fuse panel. If you have power to the switch then depress brake pedal and make sure you have power thru the switch. If this is ok the check Fuse 22(20amp) with brake applied..
hi if look at pedal box at where brake pedal is pivoted just above is the brake lights switch with a plug two wires ? unplug then use a wire /paper clip ? and connect the two wire terminals of plug this bypasses switch and lights should come on? if so then remove/unscrew switch fro box and you may find the nylon plunger is stuck in? you can free and lube it so it will come out / in ok then b4 refitting connect the plug and check it operates on and off lights ? ie when out lights on when pushed in lights off
