My 99 accord lx has an intermmitent starting problem. It idles irracatically & stalls. then when warm sometimes it won't start. the evac( I think that's what it's called it's a part on the back of the engine where the vacuum hoses go into it's a vtec 4cyl. engine) has come up on check engine light it's getting plenty of fuel & spark, just tuned up but it'll be running fine then start idling up & down then stall. then it won't start & not every time it'll crank & crank I smell fuel & then finally it starts like it's been flooded. i've been told the vacuum wouldn't cause this but wouldn't it be possible with the erratic idling then stalling problems?

I had a similar issue, with my 96 civic. Get a leak down test done. For me, it was bent valves.

SOURCE: 4cyl 2000 honda accord engine stalls while idling,

check for spark and fuel after it dies.

If there is spark but no fuel, then the fuel pump may be bad or a clogged fuel filter.

If there is fuel but not spark, then the ignition control module or the ignition coil could be bad.

Also, check that the timing belt is timing the engine correctly.

96 Accord LX, 2.2L. Wouldn't start. Replaced Starter. Replaced Battery. It drives for a little while. Turn it off and it won't start again. Help? Please?

The distributor is a high failure rate item on Hondas if I had to guess I would guess the distributor is the culprit. good luck.

I have an 89 Honda Accord lx and it idles too low

The idle speed for my 88 accord lx is 700-850 rpm for standard idle speed. The stalling is a seperate issue. When were plugs, wires, air/gas filters and distributor last checked? How long has engine been running for when you stall? Is the temprature gauge high? Any lights coming on when stall occurs? I am not a mechanic, but a DYI'er. These are common questions I am always asked when troubleshooting my Honda. :)

Stalling

IT COULD BE THE IDLE SPEED SENSOR THAT IS NOT ALLOWING IT TO STAY RUNNING. THIS DEVICE IS LOCATED NEAR THE THROTTLE BODY, WITH A PLUG ON IT WITH THREE WIRES. UNPLUG IT TO SEE IF IT WILL IDLE. IF IT DOES THEN REPLACE IT. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU. PLEASE KEEP ME INFORMED. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCED FOR AN HONEST RATING.

I just bought a 91 honda accord se and when you go to stop it stalls or suts off. any ideas of what may be causing this

Check your 91 Accord's ignition coil. The coil goes bad at apprx. 150k miles and cause the car to run rough, hard to start(long cranking time) in the morning, stall after the vehicle has warmed up, cut out while driving and backfire horribly when accelerating from a standstill.
