The easiest method is to remove the transmission and transfer case in order to facilitate R&R of the clutch.

Your quoted labour of 5.2 hrs is reasonable, but if you are a novice, expect 8-10 hrs for your repair.

the 89 Dodge Raider is a NON inteference motor it is a Early 6g72 12v and not the same as a mitsubishi diamante engine which is a inteference.

Could be your AC control unit if its not a problem with your actual AC clutch. Go ahead and check all the fuses, if non of the fuses are blown then you probably need a new control unit
