I have a 2000 Cadillac DeVille with a transmission problem. The transmission was working one minute and then stopped. I checked the linkage and it is fine, the fuses are ok and the fluid level is fine. I think it may be electrical as the indicator line that moves to show the position of the gearshift does not indicate any position other than Park. Reverse and drive positions act like they are neutral, Park does lock and keeps the car from rolling. Any help in regard to this problem would be appreciated. Phil

The neutral safety switch is on the top of the automatic transaxle (under the hood). You have to remove the air cleaner assembly for access to this item. Once the air cleaner is off, you can see the switch mounted on top of the transaxle.
Remove the shift linkage, electrical connectors and vacuum hose as needed.
Remove fuel line bracket if needed.
Remove mounting bolts and nuts to remove the old switch.

Install new switch as reverse of above.
Put shift lever in neutral.
Align switch so it's alignment hole and the matching tang hole line up. Tighten down the switch mounting bolts. Verify that the engine starts in PARK and NEUTRAL. Re-adjust if it doesn't.

the idiots must have towed the the car by the wrong end , this will burn out the transmission in short order. Any car needs to be towed with the drive wheels off the ground, if that is not poss then the drive-shaft has to be removed.

have ypu checked the fluid level in it? if the fluid level is good, you might want to replace the fluids in it

I would first replace the FUEL FILTER. If problem persists, make sure exhaust is not partially clogged like a clogged catalytic converter. Hope this helps

Sounds like the battery is weak or the alternator isn't providing enough amps to keep the engine running and power the lights at the same time.
