Why my pontiac making a clicking sound?

First, when its cold and i starts it up. its have a rough idling to it. in order for that to smooth out i have to drive it for a while and at a certain speed. to wear out the oil i guess. but it idle rough during engine first start, slowing down for a lighting or just in park. secondly, i hear a clicking sound coming straight from the engine.like a piston is hitting something i dont know. and i can hear a sound coming from the driver side. you can hear it better if someone driving the car. i wanna know what can cause these problems

Is it an overhead cam motor? if not most likely the hydraulic lifters. its pretty common for gm engines (all the 96 and up vortecs do it) if the piston was hitting anything it wouldnt be a clicking noise, and your knock sensor would shut down the engine. however being that it comes from just one side of the motor im almost certain its an exhaust leak at the manifold. those are your options but im certain its an exhaust leak. hope this helps

Why does my 2002 dodge neon idle rough when cold any other time runs smooth ?

Sounds like it just is not getting enough fuel when cold. Try using a bottle of injector cleaner from the Dodge dealer. Make sure it shows naptha on the label and do NOT get any on the paint.

If that doesn't fix it be alert to temporary rough idle when stopping at stoplights. That will indicate you will need to have it scanned.

Hard starting, rough idle when cold, then smooth running when warm

Need year/make/model/mileage of vehicle to provide a more specific set of troubleshooting steps.

When was the last tune up? Hard starts when cold are usually caused by fouled spark plugs, worn plug wires, or weak ignition coils. Fuel systems are not as effected by temperature changes as the ignition components.

Rough idle on pontiac grand am

pull the air intake hose off the throttle plate, you will find a lot of black carbor around the throttle plate causing idle concerns. clean this with a intake system cleaner. this will smooth out the 2.4 liter quite a bit

Hard starting and rough idle

The idle valve is the most common problem for hard starting in cold weather. I would recommend having it removed and inspected for contamination. Sometimes they can be cleaned out. If it has heavy carbon buildup, you may have to replace it. (if the idle valve is removed, the shutter inside should easily move when you rotate it from side to side and you can also look at it with a flashlight for a visual inspection.

It wont start i turn key lights come on makes click sound

Hello! Click sound is dead battery. Get a jump.Pull +Positive cable off the battery. If car shuts off it is the alternator. If car keeps running smoothly you need a battery. If it runs rough it is the voltage regulator.

Rough idle only when engine is cold

check to see if the vehicle has EGR valve most of them are either elecrtronic or vacum controlled disconnect it and start it check and see if this smoothes out cause it sounds like the valve is staying open while the engine is cold if thsi solves the problem replace the valve.

secondly take a small screw driver aor a tiny hammer and tap the valve while the engine is running if it smoothes out replace the valve the valve is carbon filled and needs to be changed .

Rough idle, steady idle of 1500rpm's when you crank, jerking down the road with idle jumping

1999 Surburban. Rough idle when engine is cold for about 3-5 min and then it starts to smooth out. Any ideas why the engine would act like this?.
