Trunk Latch Problem

When I close my vehicle trunk, the trunk doesn't stay securely locked, and instead, always "pops" open.

To effectively fix this annoying problem, should I replace the Trunk Latch or the Latch Assembly part that's located on the inside of the trunk?

At all costs, I want to avoid having to take my car to a local Honda dealership to repair the Trunk Latch problem.

Check the trunk latch properly if its slightly cracked or got loose this should cause this problem.

  • Anonymous Nov 01, 2008

I would say that if you are having this problem most likely the latch has been slightly bent in or out, or the vehicle has been wrecked in the past. Also, the alignment of the trunk could be off. (wrecked) But a trunk latch can get damaged from slamming it over and over.

    thanks.

I have a 2002 Malibu, my trunk won't close, I have to open with my key, always have since I got the car. The button on the remote and in the car make the trunk click but it hasn't ever opened, had to use...

Replace the latch. the lock can stay with the car so you don't have to get another key to open it. Also since yours did click, the new one should unlock the trunk. Open the trunk, look at where the latch is. A couple of nuts/bolts a plug and it is changed out.

My 1999 caliver trunk is not closeing no more, why

have a look at the trunk latch mechanism.sometimes they get closed when they should be open(the fingers that lock the trunk lid closed).if its in the closed position just unlock the trunk with the key and use something to pop open the lock(fingers) then the trunk will close again.

Trunk wont stay closed

Several times I've been able to fix this problem by tightening the bolts that hold the trunk latch.
If that doesn't work, order and install a new latch. After fixing the latch, find a friend, and
get into the trunk, and make sure that the emergency release (for trapped children) also
still works.

My 2008 Chrysler Sebring Limited convertible has a problem with the trunk latch. It won't stay closed. It keeps unlatching. Do you know what the problem is? How do I get it to stop unlatching?

I did this to my car once. Be sure the latch isn't closed as you are trying to close the trunk. With the trunk open pop the trunk once, then see if the trunk latches properly.

I accidentally pulled the interior trunk release of 2008 volkswag

Try a screw driver, and release the trunk release at the same time and unsnap the latch, the latch thinks it is closed, because the latch never opened back up to allow the striker to go in it and trigger the latch to close, the latch is in closed mode, you will have to manually unlatch the latch sort of speak.

2001 AUdi S4 Trunk will not open. Can't open manually or wiht remote. WIll do it speratically. Can not open manually wiht button at trunk or with key. HELP.

The same "latch" secures the trunk closed.
The key, electric relay and button operate the same latch.
IF the trunk fails to open, the "latch" is not completely releasing from the catch that secures it.
The next time that you open it, inspect the adjustment of the latch assembly. It has 2 bolts that secure it. You can loosen them and adjust the assembly to a slight more open position - so that each time you operate the latch, it releases from the catch.

Don't move the assembly too far - or the trunk will not be able to lock closed at all.

Latch on '96 Maxima will not lock and stay locked

Yes if your lock actuator is not stuck on unlock.Try unpluging the harness to rhe electric lock, and see if it will lock and stay locked using the key.If ti works then your okay.if you still have the problem then your tounge that holds the trunk down needs to be replaced.
