1998 chevy venture won`t start. cranks over pops and backfires, was running great till it shut off when I was driving it. obd says no codes found

It started stalling while it idled.so I put a obd on it and no codes were foun. The service engine light is not on. I took it for a ride and got about a mile when it shut off while I was driving. went to start it and it started popping and backfiring. the engine turned over like it was way out of time.I thought the timing belt went but thats not it. towed it home and tried to start it again and got a p0300 code on theo obd. changed the plugs, still the same. short of towing it to a garage with a diagnostic tester is there anything I can check at home?

Unplug the MAF sensor and see if that helps.

I assume you have spark since it is backfiring. Will it start if you use a little carb spray in the throttle body?

If it does than you have a fuel issue. Check fuel pressure. You should see more than 35 psi roughly. If there is no fuel pressure than check for power to the pump (the larger of the two grey wires at the pump). If there is power than the fuel pump would be the first thing I suspected.

SOURCE: towing and alligment problem, relation

Most likely the tow company hooked up the chains wrong when towing your car. Was this a flatbed tow truck or the two wheel dolly that only lifts up the front of your car? If the tow truck was a flatbed then when the car was pulled onto it the chains were probably hooked up wrong and a lower control arm got bent which would create your car to pull when driving. If it was a dolly type and the e-brake was left on then one of your tires has a flat spot and could be creating a radial pull. Take the vehicle to a repair shop that does free alignment checks and ask them to inspect the suspension for damage/ bent parts that could have been created by a tow chain.

SOURCE: 1990 dodge 360. Runs fine. unpredictable backfire

You want to check your timing for accuracy and then check all plug wires for burned or cracked ends. Also check the single coil tower where the coilwire connects for very small cracks. Then check the inside of the disrtibutor cap for the same small cracks. Throughout this process I'm certain you'll find the culprit. Thanks, Dana

96 dodge caravan 3.3. Runs great but while driving loses power and backfires, pull off road will idle rough till dies. Runs good for couple days, weeks and same prob occurs.

i would recommend getting the OBD codes read as this will point to which switch/sensor/circuit is at issue , i would expect it could be the crank sensor from your description but the OBD will tell you definately what needs looking at

88 chevy 2.5l, gets fuel will not start

An engine shut not backfire unless the timing is off, it has a burnt valve or an exhaust restriction. Since the crank sensor was the catalyst for the problem, I would again check it. It definately affects the timing for the fuel and spark

if it shuts off while driving and will not start back up for at least 10 minutes, then it may be the crank sensor doing this. is check engine light on! if so get it scanned to find problem code. if no scanner, auto-zone will scan for free. if light is on. CPS symtoms are: car dies and won't re-start till it cools down, or won't start at all. good-day ! crank sensor timing will be out of sync. it controls timing and sends info to pcm.
