2004 grand cherokee limited coe p0244. how am i supposed to find a small evap leak and why do i fail inspections for that. 2004 is 134a. no effect on the ozone.
The evap leak is short for EVARORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEM, NOT AC EVAPORATOR, AC leaks do not cause the truck to fail emission, most likely the problem is a defective gas cap. Also the code you give (P0244) is a watse gate code, please provide the correct code.

Po442 is evap system leak check intake and all vacuum hoses for leaks check evap canister and purge valve Po445 is evap canister purge valve short circuit check wiring and connection
codse p0456 refers to evaporative emission system-- very small leak detected.. probable causes -----mechanical fault---hose connections loose---EVAP pressure sensor.. I would look at the EVAP sensor as being faulty
Usually this P0456 code is caused by an incorrect or faulty gas cap. Filling
the fuel tank with the engine running could conceivable cause this code as well
or if the cap wasn't properly tightened. Any of the following could also be
the cause:
A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
open hood and ck for broken vacuum hoses going to the purge valve(2 vacuum ports and a wiring connector)
on the drivers side between airbox and firewall
if good remove driver side rear tire and inspect hoses next to the gas tank and 3rd, the canister is in that wheel well also insp for cracked hoses there also, been working for jeep 12 years i charged people about 1 hour to correct this probem.
That code definition is (evaporative system small leak detected). One of the most common reasons for this code is a faulty gas cap. The evap system is strictly designed to trap fuel vapors in the tank and not allow them to scape into the atmosphere. The vehicle keeps a constant vacume on the tank and when it is unable to hold that pressure it will set the code you have. Try buying a new gas cap-thats a cheap start-clear the code and see what happens. If the light comes back on you will have to bring it to a repair shop where they will tap into the Evap system and force smoke into it. They will then observe the Evap hoses and wherever it leaks smoke will be your problem.
If your wanting to know what to check. po445 is the purge solenoid control circuit, po447is the evap vent solenoid control circuit.Check the connections, and the wiring for shorts, or replace solenoid. Could also be a failed pcm.
