SOURCE: engine timing for a 1998 subaru forester with a 2.5

Since ignition timing is taken care of by the ECU, I guess you are asking about cam timing.
There are several marks to be aligned and if you get them wrong, you may trash your engine so I am only going to suggest you buy a Haynes service manual that has numerous good pix that show you exactly how to avoid killing your engine. And, unless you have a good-size vice well-mounted, compressing the belt tensioner again is going to give you fits.
The Haynes number you need is 89100 but it is listed only as a manual for the Legacy which uses the same engine but there may be less info that is usable on your '98 forester for which Haynes does not make a specific manual.
The later book that I have, 89101, covers all models from 2000 to 2006.

SOURCE: Installing replacement side mirror on 2007 Subaru Forester

yes... you'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you can access the bolts holding the mirror on and disconnect the wiring harness as well..

SOURCE: 2000 subaru forester ignition coil wiring

Are there any other possible problems, or you are just not receiving spark at all now?

The coilpack could be dead and just need replaced. If you have a voltmeter or a test light, check the wiring on both sides of the coilpack harness to make sure it is receiving power.
I don't believe Subaru used ignitors past '99, but if they did, your should be located on the firewall behind the throttle body. Make sure it's plugged in and receiving power.

Coil packs do go bad from time to time. I had to replace mine in my
'98 Impreza a while back.

Goodluck!

Where in a 2006 Subaru Forester non turbo 4 cylinder is the PCV valve and the EGR valve located?

Hi. You will find the EGR valve behind the alternator. You will need to disconnect the battery and remove the alternator to access the EGR valve. The PCV valve is buried too. Passenger side, remove the air box and look down below the coil pack, near the TAC (Throttle Actuating Controller).

Where is the EVAP purge valve at on a 2004 subaru forester

The purge valve solinoid is on top of the engine to the left of the alternator. It has an electrical connector and two smallish hoses, one to the intake manifold and one to the purge valve. Inspect both hoses for cracks and dry rot. Make sure you get them installed correctly. The one closest to the solenoid is to the manifold and the one at the end to the valve.
Disconnect the battery before replacing the valve.
A Common cause of OBDC errors. Some code readers can cycle through solenoids, tests AutoZone may not trouble with.
