have it checed out by a air bag technitcian open squib means no contact in a squib need to be fixed

I have an 04 liberty limited 4x4 ... I was told there's a recall on the air bag to be fixed at dealerfor free after Jan. 2013 ... Good Luck !!!

He would have run a diagnostic scan of the system to decide that, so he could be right and he could be wrong.

since you have a seat belt light on with the air bag, looks like the driver's restrain system is faulty, visit a garage to put it on a diagnostic equipment to confirm the malfunction.Do not Attempt to do it your self.

Not likely that the air bag will deploy without notice, its supposed to be a safety device not a hazard.
the light can mean the air bag(or belt) it may not work, or it is due for servicing, this can sometimes be when they get to 10 years old, if your model has the blow up belt it may mean the belt is out of date, pehaps the mechanic was correct.
You will need a specialist air bag tech, who will check or replace necessary items and restet the warning light.

It is possible something got bumped or unplugged. Look under the front seats to make sure everything is plugged in. The airbag connectors are colored yellow.
