My cars check engine light comes on sporadically. it has failed state inspection due to the code P1259 manufacturer controlled fuel and air metering. i've looked all over the web trying to find out what exactly the problem may be and how tho fix it. i found something telling me that it has something to do with the VTEC, possibly the wiring to the selenoid. i have been unsuccessful in finding anything that could even tell me where to locate the selenoid or any of the wiring to it

Code p 1259 refers to engine coolant system valve --short to ground
code p 1259 refers to Vtec-system malfunction that is the code for 2 different makes of cars
p 1**** numbers are manufacturer specific so you have to put in the make and model and year of the car with the fault code

I'm not sure why you got that code definition. P1259 in the factory manual reads, "VTEC system malfunction". According to the manual you are supposed to reset the powertrain control module (PCM) then road test--accelerating in first gear to over 4000 rpm and hold that rpm for at least two seconds. If the code does not repeat then do the road test two more times just to be sure. If the code does repeat during the three acceleration tests, then the VTEC pressure switch and solenoid valve should be checked. If the code does not repeat during the three acceleration tests, then the system had an intermittant fault. As for the TCS light being on, I know this may sound simple but is the TCS switch off? If it is, that will cause the light to come on. The TCS light is more applicable to an ABS brake system problem. If the transmission has a fault, you should see a diagnostic code that begins with P07xx or P17xx. The green D4 drive light may also blink. Based on your symptoms of excessive shock in 1-2 upshifts, the book suggests the shift solenoid valve C could be defective, or the 2nd clutch pressure switch or the circuit could be defective, or there could be foreign material in the separator plate orifice, or seven other possible causes. I would suggest clearing the code and replacing the transmission fluid with genuine Honda fluid and then see if the code and the symptoms return.

SOURCE: VTEC System Malfunction code P1259

P1259 Immobilizer to PCM Signal Error,, ok, first does the car hic up at around 4000 rpm'? what you have here is possibly 2 things with a honda, and that code just happens to pop up for both,, One, change the oil, and 2, you may need to change the Vtec pressure sensor/screen (solenoid),, its located between the Vtec solenoid and the head,, My guess is that your oil is pretty bad, or you just had an oil change, either way ,, clean that sensor,, it may or may not work, if not, you'll have to replace it

My check engine light came on. I went to autozone and received a dtc p1259 code. What does that mean

p1259 code is manufacturer control fuel air metering,--its a VTEC malfunction, Check the oil level in your car. Everytime I've seen this code it is because the oil level is low. VTEC works off of oil pressure and when the oil level is too low there is not enough oil pressure to push the VTEC in. My guess is you're about two quarts of oil low so it should cost you about $4.00 to fix the problem. If the oil level is correct then you'll need to take it to the dealer for diagnosis.

I had my check engine light come on & the code is a P1259 /fuel and air metering issue. Does anyone know what part this code is referring to that may need replaced? The car is running okay. However...

I suggest replacing the O2 sensor(s). These detect the level of carbon monoxide in the exhaust, and at a certain level the exhaust is then returned to the engine to be reburned, then sent back through the exhaust, catalytic converter, then the muffler.

Take the code type to an auto parts dealer, and verify what the code is specifically referring to.

If the engine was idling (running) rough, also repalce the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs<-- find out gap setting; plug wires, distributor cap and rotor (if equipped).

Also, if you haven't recently had the fluids changed, have them changed as well, as the filters for each and the gaskets if needed.

NOTE: if you smell an unusual smell coming from your car; the smell of rotten eggs or such, then your catalytic converter may need replaced.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

p1259 is a problem with the VTEC system. this system is for improved performance at higher rpm's. oil can get sludged up and clog the system, or the VTEC solenoid can just go bad. you can always have someone with a scan tool clear the codes to turn off the light, but until the problem is fixed, it will just keep coming back on

Code 1259 what does it mean?

the p1259 code in the Honda's is a manufactures specific code for the fuel metering system, also known as the heated O2 sensor. if this is a 4 cylinder it will be the sensors after the catalytic converter, however with either engine DO NOT just start replacing the sensors without having them checked, there is a lot of small things in the system that can cause this code such as a blown fuse, damaged wires, etc. the sensors are expensive so have it checked and verified first.

The best thing to do is go to Auto Zone and get your Hyundai scanned for a DTC code. That would tell us which O2 sensor has gone bad. You have three O2 sensors and one of them has gone bad, the O2 sensor sends signals to the ecm to control the air fuel mixture so it will not run to rich or to lean which is causing you to fail the state inspection. Good luck and keep me posted on what the DTC codes are, be glad to help.
