About 2 weeks ago i was driving, while accelerating the Electronic Throttle control light came on and i lost power. i pulled over turned the car off and then turned it back on and the car was fine. the next day it happened again only this time my car stopped on the highway. i had to get it towed into carmax where i had purchased the car 2 months prior. when they called me to tell me what was wrong they said 2 of my ignition coils had gone bad and they needed to be replaced. they also recommended replacing the spark plugs in case they were damaged... here we are 2 weeks later and it has happened again. and my car has been towed back again... can anyone help me with what it could be and why they would say ignition coils were the problem when the throttle light came on?
The 1st thing that MUST be done is to have the electronic engine control system computer (called the "PCM") scanned for fault codes, this gives you the starting point for diagnosis od why the warning/fault light is on. You can get the scan for fault codes done for free at any Autozone or similar discount auto parts store in your area. Aamco Transmission does the scan for free as well.

I had this problem with my 2004 Ram with 5.7 Hemi. The check engine light would come on, it had a hesitation at a certain rpm range and would shut off on me from time to time. Took it to my mechanic and he said the electric throttle sensor wasn't reading correctly and my EGR valve was out. He fixed both problems, but then had to send the truck to the Dodge dealer to get the computer reflashed and the dealer is the only one that can do it. Cost about $500, but after that, no more problems. Better performance and fuel mileage.
