I have a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, when I go to start it it clicks but nothing starts and the electrical in the car goes out. If I let it sit the electrical come back on. I have had a tune-up recently, changed the battery and have had the alternator and starter checked all seem good. Any ideas??? Thank you
You may have a bad connection where the battery grounds to the frame and/or engine. Check the cable running from the negative battery post to where it bolts to the car. It should be clean and very tight - no corrosion. If you can see the connection, watch it while someone tries to engage the starter. See if it sparks, or starts to smoke or glow a dull red. If so, the connection needs to be cleaned up very well.

I used a scoket drive with a flex head and vicegrips. Now I'm trying to find out what you have to do to get it out after that.
SOURCE: need to change starter
Should be under the engine on the passenger side of the engine right next to the transmission. It is about the size of large size juice can, is normally black with a smaller rounded thing with wires attatched called the soinoid. Most ford soiniods have an unplug plastic connection. You need to unhook all wires, and I think this starter has two bolts while a few have 3. Dont know which engine you have, so I am just giving you the general information. You will need tools like sockets, socket extension, rachet, a hand wrench set will also maybe come in handy as well as a couple of screwdrivers like at least one of each. Normally you will need to jack up and block the car up and put on jackstand as well as setting the brake, putting in park, and blocking all wheels also. You can look on the autozone website in the repair section to help, and you can also buy a complete starter from the parts house which will tell you the bolt locations, what it looks like, etc. hope this helps you, rick

SOURCE: Need to change flasher relay in 1997 Mercury Grand
From the 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis
4.6L SFI 8cyl repair manual, the
Flasher is located behind left side of instrument panel. The turn signal and emergency flashers are attached to the interior fuse
panel. They are replaced in the same manner as the fuses and circuit
breakers.
