There should be a tension pullie that you put a wrench on and turn it and the pullie will kind of fold back on a spring so you can remove the belt

SOURCE: cannot remove rear brake caliper

Try using a "c" clamp and push the piston in all the way on the caliper. Take the lid off the master cyl first. Lee

Is there a torque spec on the spindle nut for the rear caliper on a 1999 Chevy Silverado 4x4 V8 5.3

  1. nstall the caliper mounting bolts. Perform the following procedure before installing the caliper guide pin bolts (15 Series only).
  2. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
  • Clean the threads of the bolt with brake parts cleaner or the equivalent and allow to dry.
  • Apply Red Loctite#272 to the threads of the bolt.
  1. Install the caliper mounting bolts (25 series). Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.) on the 15 series; 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) on the 25 series.

What kind of wrench loosens the tightner springs on the front brakes on a 1999 1500 Chevy pickup?

There are no springs on the front brakes of a GM vehicle. The calipers are floating type, and all alignment is accomplished by sliding bolts in the caliper. If it's these bolts that you are referring to, then it takes an allen wrench.

Removing chevy venture caliper

Yes it's the right direction but because of so much heating and cooling those bolts get really tight.Spray alot of penetrating oil (WD-40) on and around the bolts. You may even want to tap the wrench on the bolts in the opposite direction slightly (tighten) to help loosen their adherence, then try the right way to losen them.Dont use a torch! It'll melt the "O" ring on the caliper piston.Take your time

Stuck allen screws on 2000 silverado front brakes

Cut down a bolt so that the threaded bit sits inside the hole in the hex bolt place a washer between the head of the bolt and the top of the hex bolt.

Put a support behind the caliper so that any energy you use is not wasted

Use a bit of masking tape to hold it in position and give it a couple of sharp hard hits to the top of the threaded bolt

Try to crack it open

If not then you need to apply some to the area heat using a small blow torch, do not go wild as you can end up cooking the cylinder rubbers

99 silverado 2500, what is the correct size torx bit for the caliper bolt?

The correct size is a T55, which is NOT included in the 3 bit brake set sold at Sears. Fortunately I got the larger set. A note to all you mechanics out there - brake caliper bolts do NOT need the tightness that only 3 gorillas can provide. Yes, they do need to be tight but not to the extent that one is breaking bits to free the bolt - and no, it was not due to rust. And why on earth are there torx head bolts on the Chevy anyway? I will go back to Ford if I ever get the chance!
