2007 grand prix won't start but lights and horn work

Car won't turn over but horn and lights work. Makes a purring sound when you turn the key to start it. If we jump it it will start eventually and keep running.

The sound you call purring is the starter motor spinning. Your starter is basically a two function device. It spins to turn the flywheel and therefore the engine over so it can start. The other thing it must to (which yours isn't) is a motion like a solenoid, the bendix, that drives the starters output shaft with a small gear that has to engage the flywheel teeth. That outward motion inserts the starter pinion into contact with the flywheel. When the starter is disengaged, the bendix is also disengaged, withdrawing the starter pinion from the flywheel teeth and back into it's resting position. It sound like your starter's bendix is stuck and isn't being moved outward and so isn't engaging the flywheel. In the old days we used to strike the starter motor with a hammer to free a stuck bendix. This is risky these days because the design of the start motors (many of them) are made inside out. That is, instead of field coil windings being close to the outside of the case, they are deep inside and spin with the starter. Magnets are now just inside the case and they can break like ceramic if the starter motor is struck. Replacement of the starter is in order for a long-term fix.

2007 grand prix GXP won't start instead horn honks, light flash, wipers cycle, and Battery is fully charged. It can still be a bad battery. The battery goes dead when applying a load so power to the starter motor is shut off causing the horn to honk, etc. Jump start the car then you can drive to your local battery store.

SOURCE: I have a 2007 grand prix. The lowbeams work but

check the switch it self in the steering column mabe faulty and will need replacing. the high beam switch tend to go bad over time, some has better luck than others, it fairly easy to replace. the switch unit itself operate like a two way switch, one for flashing and other high beam.

Someone will need to check the ignition switch for power when it fails to work. Could be the switch or a relay.

My plymouth breeze won't start, won't make a sound, but my lights and horn still works , help me.

any real answer yet? did the problem ever get resolved? i have the same problem with my sister's car. too cold to diagnose tonight, but will post the solution probably tomorrow. since the lights and heater works, but ignition and radio arent getting power, my first guess is there's probably a fried fusible link which controls the 2nd accessory power to the ignition switch. will post a solution soon.

Front Wheel Bearing Hub

You will have to remove the brake calipers, hang it,&
remove the rotor, then you can turn the hub & feel the
roughness.

ROCK AUTO.com for parts & look at that hub, so you
match it up the same. Don't get in love with one brand
you like, if the hub looks different at the back where the
speed sensor goes in

You also may find your self buying a torx socket or metric
socket driver to get the speed sensor out. Maybe not

If tools are needed,do yourself a favor & step inside a Snap-On
Truck & just buy one item or so. If you don't ,you won't find those
items anywhere

2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP Sedan wheel bearing problems - computer says it bad put a new one in and computer still says it bad

You car has a Powertrain Control Module or Electronic
Control Module --- not a computer

No Motor vehicle self diagnoses themselves or
says anything is bad

All it can do, is set an OBD2 Trouble Code --if a sensor
goes out of range.

You have to use the codes to diagnose a particular
system & component test what you think may be a
problem

There is a lot monitored & data stored you won't see,
unless you access the ecm with a scan tool, not a code reader

Might possibly be. Pontiacs were really tied into that anti theft security system. They were notorious for breaking. Here is a link to a site about these SECURITY systems. And possible DO IT YOURSELF solutions. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
