You will have to remove the door panel. To do this use a phillips screwdriver and remove the two screws under the inside door handle. Then lift and remove the section. Remove another screw from the interior lower left corner. Pry the window crank apart "if exists" then use a T20 torq bit to remove the screw in handle. Remove the panel by lifting and pulling at same time. With window in up position you can see inside the hole a rod going from the door handle to a bracket with a Yellow clip. Slide the clip to the open position and pull the rod out of the clip. From the outside of door under the handle there are two rivets. Use a punch and knock out the center of each rivet. Then use a 1/4" drill bit and drill out the rivet. A flat tip screwdriver will be used to knock off the rest of the rivet. You will need two flat head screws and lock nuts or to reinstall the handle. Lift out old handle with attached rod. Twist rod as you pull to remove it and install it into the new handle. Place the rod through the hole and look inside to be sure is will move to the location of the yellow clip.Install the screws from the outside and the nuts from the inside and tighten. From inside connect the rod to the yellow clip. Lift on the rod while closing the clip. Then test door handle. If it doesn't work properly the rod was not lifted or pulled outward enough. Redo that step until you get it right. Reinstall inner panel as removed.

If the exterior handle is not broaken but is floppy then the linkage has likely come apart. If the handle has resistance but will not open door try a good dose of wd40. It might be dry or rusty or just gunked with dirt.

Once you pull the door panel you will see 2 nuts and a rod clip, that's all that holds it on.

SOURCE: How to replace '96 Ford Explorer driver side exterior door handle

You will need to remove the door panel to gain access to the handle. Roll the window up or down as needed to get to the nuts that attach the handle to the door. You will also need to remove a rod the goes to the door lock. You will see the rod after the door panel is removed. Good luck.

SOURCE: Driver side exterior door handle pulls the locking

Take the door panel off the inside of the door. (Should involve screws at the bottom, plus bolts through the interior handle. Then pull out at the bottom, and lift upward Google for expedition door panel removal for more specifics if needed).

It sounds like the exterior handle linkage is binding against the lock button linkage. Actually looking in while pulling the handle would confirm. You then should be able to just bend the rods a bit to move them apart.

SOURCE: How do you open the door on a 2001 Ford Ranger if

You can go to a parts store and buy a slim jim. It's a flat metal bar that slides between the glass and the rubber on the door. Get a flashlight and use the tool to hook the linkege that the handle connects to inside the door. You will be able to open it like that. If you don't think you can handle it call a tow company and tell them you need a lock-out. They can get it opened for you for about $50 bucks.

VW Jetta 2012 exterior handle will not open door; however, interior handle will open the door.

Remove the inner door panel and make sure the actuator rod for the exterior handle is still engaged. If it is then the handle itself needs to be replaced.

Driver door wont close- latch on door is jammed

The claw on the latch is probably just latched without the striker being in it. Try holding one of the door handles in the open position and use your finger to rotate the latch to the open position then release the handle and see if it will shut. Hope that helps

Driver's door is not opening using exterior door handle

Normally it will be the small retainer that holds the inside of the door handle to the part that hooks to the latch assembly. Or it is possible that the door handle part is broken, but not likely. You will have to have the window raised, and remove the door panel and look inside the door panel where the handle attaches to see what the problem is. May help to have a flashlight. These are sometimes difficult to fix as there is not much room to work & the parts have to be attached for the exterior handle to work. Rick
