When lifting the throttle to change gear (manual transmission) the engine over-revs for about five seconds before dropping to allow smooth gearchange. Less of a problem when the engine is cold.
I had the dealer change both the idle control valve and the TPS but made no difference. After several attempts the Hyundai agent admitted it probably wasn't fixable, although changing the EMS might help (it might have a later version of software for example), but there would be no gaurantee. In the end I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and swapped it out for a Getz - which is an excellent car with no similar problems and does almost 600k's in the city on a 40 litre fill up. 2,500 to 3,000 on a 12 yr old car. Newer vehicles with 6-9 speed auto transmissions sometimes run as low as 2,200. But your gearing is your gearing. Can't change that now.
having the transmission rebuilt in 2010 means that the tranny is 7 years old since service so there can be any amount of faults
run the fault codes to check for problem TCM, VSS, servos and solenoids
check the vacuum actuator for the transmission and vacuum lines
change the transmission oil
the engine light also reports on transmission failures
Check the following_
- Throttle cable adjustment.
- Throttle body gasket for cracks or damage.
- Throttle body for clogged.
- Idle Air Control Valve for jammed of clogged.
- Air or vacuum leaks in the intake manifold.
seems a bit early for clutch. how many k's? I would start by checking the intake tube for splits & security & airflow sensor. they will cause the engine to rev but no response (like a slipping clutch) so its manual right?
There's a good chance the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) has gone bad. Have an electrician bench test it for bad spots (in the potentiometer). You may also have carbon/soot buildup on the throttle body thottle plate causing it to stick. Standard throttle/choke plate cleaner will take care of the throttle plate.
P1529 means nothing more than the TCM (transmission control module) has
requested that the ECM (engine control module) turn on the check engine
lamp. P0734 basically indicates that your transmission is slipping. You need to take this car to an authorized repair center for hyundai cars. Replacing the filter and fluid on the transmission might save this transmission but I would be willing to bet that a total transmission rebuild is in order.
Do you mean the idle control valve? There's also a similar problem here http://www.fixya.com/cars/t596437-2001_e... according to solution #11 it's normal. Do you think that's right?
