    ALL 1/2 TONS (1500) HAVE THE 4L60E

Not all 1/2 tons have the 4L60E transmission, you have to get under the truck and count the bolts. 16 bolts is the 4L60E and 17 bolts is the 4L80E.

First off the difference in a c and a k series truck is that the c is 4x2 and the k is a 4x4. You will have a 4l60e in your c/k1500. When you get into the c/k2500 or c./k3500 you will start to get into the 4l80e. It is like this because the 2500 and the 3500 are bigger trucks. I am 99.99% sure that you will have a 4l60e, because that is what i have in my truck and i have a 1997 chevy k1500 5.7 l v8.

It should be the 4l60e , i believe the c-series were the heavy duty models with the larger rear axle and the 4l80e tranny. but to be certain , it's stamped on the passenger side i believe , towards the front (on the bell-housing or right behind on the gear box but definately on the pass. side. note: you may have to remove the heat shield in order to see it . it's that little cover ( held by 2 small 10mm bolts ) that reflect the heat from the catylitic convertor but its simple...

Can you use a 95 GMC 1500 V6 automatic transmission to replace in a 89 K 1500 V8 4x4?

The 95 GMC 1500 V6 automatic transmission may not be compatible with the 89 K1500 V8 4x4 due to differences in engine size and drivetrain. It's recommended to use a transmission that matches the engine and drivetrain specifications of your 89 K1500.

I changed the clutch in my 90 K1500 chevy 4x4 5 speed, now I have not got backup lights. I had backup lights up to that point. What advice does anyone have for me?

You may have left the backup light connector off the transmission or damaged the wiring to it, go under the truck and reconnect it to the sensor that is screwed into the case of the transmission.

How can you tell what transmission is in a 1997 Chevy k1500 regular cab long box, 5.7 L I think?

Hi,
The best and fastest way is to look at the VIN Plate and it will have a alpha numeric code. This code tells you the Engine,Transmission, etc....Then contact Chevrolet and they should be able to find the number and tell you exactly what transmission you have in your truck.
Thanks

I want to switch transmissions

If they are both 4L60Es' then yes. I know the 96 1500 does but you didn't state what size the 97 is. And are they both 4X4?
