I'm trying to find out what size transmission i have. 1997 k1500 extended cab with a 5.7 v8 automatic transmission. is it a 4L60-E or 4L80-E ?
A 4L60E has 16 pan bolts and a 4L80E has 17 pan bolts
First off the difference in a c and a k series truck is that the c is 4x2 and the k is a 4x4. You will have a 4l60e in your c/k1500. When you get into the c/k2500 or c./k3500 you will start to get into the 4l80e. It is like this because the 2500 and the 3500 are bigger trucks. I am 99.99% sure that you will have a 4l60e, because that is what i have in my truck and i have a 1997 chevy k1500 5.7 l v8.

WHAT KIND OF TRANSMISSION DO I HAVE IN A 1997 CHEVY K1500 5.7L V8
ALL 1/2 TONS (1500) HAVE THE 4L60E
Not all 1/2 tons have the 4L60E transmission, you have to get under the truck and count the bolts. 16 bolts is the 4L60E and 17 bolts is the 4L80E.
