When cold runs good ,also runs well when hot but if you turn off will not start again untill its cold
SOURCE: Starts fine when cold, after running dies on idle then wont start
Sounds like the fuel filter is dirty and needing to be changed. It's cheap and easy to swap out.

It could possibly be your temperature sensor. I had a Buick with the same problem. In winter, it ran fine. When the weather warmed up, the car would sputter and die. A defective temp. sensor will cause your car's ECM to mis-read the coolant's temp. So it will adjust your fuel input as if the outside temp. was -30,causing an over-rich fuel mixture.

OK, a vacuum controlled blend door is the problem. Fig. Fig. 1: Plenum door vacuum motors
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
See Figure 1
---
Search for other vacuum motors under the dash to see if the vacuum hoses have somehow deteriorated or become detached.

Try to look up your vehicle on autozone.com for other vacuum motors under the 'heater' section of the 'chassis electrical' section of the 'repair guide' after selecting your 1996 Ford f250 crew cab vehicle.

If you mean that it starts fine when cold, but if you stop & turn off the engine (to to pop into a shop for example) then try to restart and get absolutely no turning over, then you need to replace your battery. It has a short or crack which is expanding when hot creating your problem.
