This is a front wheel drive car. so the only things in the rear wheel area that typically make noise would be the rear brakes or the wheel bearings. Because you notice it more when braking i suspect the brakes are worn out. inspect the brake pad wear on both the inside and outside pads, if they look ok, you would need to investigate further for a possible wheel bearing or hub issue.

Load noise from engine compartment when brakes applied and almost stopped

This sounds like the abs system is coming on, this may be due to a bad wheel sensor, the best way to see if the noise is the abs is to remove abs fuse and drive, the abs light will come on but drive to see if noise is gone. by removing the fuse the system will shut down. the way it makes noise when close to a stop means the abs could be the noise, a bad sensor at the wheel would cause this. it looses the signal for a sec or two and the compuetr thinks the wheel is skidding and the rest are moving, so the noise you hear is the abs unit release the wheel. if the abs is the problem then the next step is to have a garage scan the abs module for codes. the codes will tell you where the problem is and which wheel. good day.

I was wondering on a alero 99 , i replaced the brakes and a caliper and fixed my brake lines but my abs light is on but it sounds like a airplain when u drive their is no shaking or grinding in the front...

YEP BAD WHEEL BEARING WILL MAKE A ROARING LIKE NOISE WHILE IN MOTION.BAD WHEEL COULD PUT DRAG ON WHEEL WHICH CAUSE ABS LIGHT TO COME ON.YOUR WHEEL BEARING HAS THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR BUILT INTO IT.SO IF WHEEL BEARING BAD THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR PART OF ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WILL CAUSE ABS LIGHT TO COME ON IF WHEEL BEARING BAD.MAKE SURE FRONT BRAKE PADS INSTALLED CORRECTLY IF NOT. YOU WILL GET TERRIBLE WHEEL NOISE ALSO.

I have a 93 honda accord and when i am backing up i hear a bad metal grinding noise. What could cause that. Also while i'm driving my wheels make a squealing noise which is very annoying. anyone got any...

It could be your brake splash shield that's slightly bent into and rubbing up against the brake rotor, causing that noise in reverse and forward. It will make a different noise going in different direction. Have it checked and if necessary simply bent back into place.

Why is my abs light on in my 03 chevy? and on the passanger side the front tire is roaring really bad when i drive, please help

Ok, there are sensors on your front wheel hubs. This could easily cause the abs light to turn on. The loud noise could easily be your wheel hub going bad. Easiest way to check, jack up the front of the truck, grab tire, shake back and forth and up and down. Same amout of play each way? You're wheel hub is bad.......

There is a grating feeling in the steering wheel when I turn the wheel. It was hardly noticeable at first but it is slowly getting worse. Could the road humps near where I live have knocked something loose...

Grating sounds like brakes, the brakes have shields at the front and they sometimes bend inwards contacting the brake disc, get under neath and ensure that nothing is touching the back side of the brake discs.

other thing it could be a wheel bearing on its way out although this is a constant noise like a berrrring noise.

if it is a knocking then that will be the ball joint, the other possiblity is bottom suspension arm bushes, these would cause this noise if bad enough, try pushing your foot against the front wheels facing forward with the wheels straight, if the wheel has excessive play either forward or back then thats the fault.

Hope this helps

Front end noise when turning. almost sounds like

There are a couple of things to cause metallic sounds when turning. First thing, is if it's a clicking sound when you turn, then you have a cv joint going bad. It's usually more prominent when moving in reverse, however it can happen just as well while moving forewards. Secondly, if it's more of a grinding or scraping noise, we have a couple of options. The sound could be coming from the brakes, if they're worn or have grit stuck in them, or it could be bad bearings in the front wheel hub. The wheel hub has a tendency to making a whining noise when driving; usually most easily heard when driving past buildings. They can also allow the tire/wheel to present the appearance of leaning when looking at it. If bad enough, it can even rub on the brake caliper, or cause the disc brake rotor to wear out the brake pads prematurely. So, to recap: Check:
CV joints, if a clicking sound brakes or wheel hub bearings if grinding or whining sound.
