While driving on the motorway , suddenly the powersteering light comes on with a beeping sound and the steering wheel becomes stiff . you stop the vehicle and turns the ignition off and start it again then the powersteering is normal.
I have just had this exact problem driving home did you find a solution ?

Have you checked the tyre pressures. If you have no power steering a flat tyre will make tunning the wheels hard due to more turnning rsistance. Also a seized ball joint some where would also make steering hard.Hope this helps

the pump is out or just about to go out. It will need replaced. Sounds like to me it was ran without enough fluid in the pump and burned out.

Hi,
It is a wiring fault, but they are looking on the wrong end. You will need to have a VW dealer "repin" the electrical connector at the throttle body. What this means is, the dealer will take apart the connector, cut off the old pins and crimp on new ones and reassemble the connector. This is a common problem on drive by wire VW's. The dealer has a bulletin on the problem and I don't know why they missed it. They will probably have to order the connector kit however. Good luck!

Check that the belt is tight on the alternator and the power steering pump. If it slips, that could cause the light on the dash ( a charge light) and the lack of power steering assist.
