Car isn't starting all the time. Has a New Fuel filter and fuel pump is putting out enough pressure. has a new battery. if when it soesn't start you spray ether into the air cleaner it will run and stay running. then about 4 or 5 times later and sometimes the next time it won't start. The starter turn over great. When we checked to see if any codes would come up it was empty. the car has 63,000 miles.
My CTS will start fine. After a few minutes of driving after it heats up. the car has a Vapor lock action where the car shuts down. After it cool for 15 minutes it will start back up. The problem... no check engine light so no where to start.
Try changing the crankshaft sensor it has like a small nipple on it and i guess it wears out and it doesn't make contact i did it to mine and it workesd it started twice and then it did not start at all just cranked it cost about 30 dollars but its's pretty difficult to get to it's on the block on the driver's side by the exhaust.

It is a known issue. Fuel pumps can work, but not provide enough pressure, so you need to test with a pressure gauge. There is also a Pressure Regulator. Have a read of this.
When you open the gas cap, you relieve the pressure in the fuel system. Once you replace the cap, this pressure must be reestablished. All vehicles have a fuel system "prime" function that causes the fuel pump to run for about 3-5 seconds after turning the key to bring fuel pressure to the fuel rail. It sounds as though your system isn't getting enough pressure on the first prime, so you must cycle the key twice to get full pressure. It could be a sign of the fuel pump starting to fail.
Just guessing but trying to help...Your car might be vapor locked..Take off your gas cap... Do you heat KT sucking in air as you take it off...If you do your car will now start...A lot of people at the gas pump will try to get that extra fifty cent in their tank at fill ups..Thats the worst thing you can do. What your doing is putting gas down your gas vapor line...Its meant to burn vapors from your gas tank..When you over fill your gas tank this gas runs down that line into a canister that has charcoal as the filter built inside. Over time your gas will harden the filter to where it becomes clogged..Then as the pressure in your gas tank becomes greater than your fuel pump...Your car will shut off not start back up until the pressure in the tank drops....You can replace this canister... Most are behind your headlights on drivers side..Its that little black box your never did anything..On some vans there underneath...Another thing :is as these canister's go bad your putting all that broke down black charcoal right into your carburetor.. That's those lines thats those lines that are hooked to it at the bottom...So your feeding your car junk...Never over fill your car because in time it will shut off...So just loose the cap and lesson for air sucking in....Try to start it with cap off...More unlikely you have a non stock fuel cap..Either drill tiny hole in the center of cap or replacei it with factory stock...Also some cars have a fuel shut off switch that will shut the gas off in crashes...Sometimes these switches will go bad....they can be reset...Might be in truck under matting....Good luck...Hope all of this helps someone
Have your dealer or a qualified Cadillac mechanic check the anti-theft system and your key. Your ECM may need to be re-flashed, but have a diagnostic scan performed to determine possible solutions.
The problem is fuel related. Bad fuel pump, bad fuel pump relay or a leaking injector causing fuel pressure to bleed off when turned off. When starting the car up for the first time have somebody turned the key just to the one position while you listen to the fuel tank. you should be able to hear the fuel pump kicking on for a few seconds.

Hey Guys! Had the same annoying problem. Cadillac dealer could find nothing wrong with it. Gave me a new battery. Took it to PepBoys and it died for them and immediately they found that it was the Crank Positon Sensor!! Part was $70 + labor. GOOD as NEW!!!!
