I had the same problem on a Rover. There was a leak in inlet manifold that was caussing the problem.
To verify, spray some sealant to temporarily seal the inlet manifold .and the eratic idling should disappear for some time.
If it does, you know there is leak in inlet manifold which you can take of and refit with a new gasket.

I don't think there is a circuit for idle control. The idle speed is controlled by the ECU (computer) via Idle air control valve.

IdleAir control valve could be leaking air. You can try adjusting If that does not fix it, you can try replacing the IACV. (Idle air control Valve).

Btw how did you check for inlet leak?

1989 honda prelude. engine surges. from normal to 2100 rpms

There is a warm up valve on the throttle body(should have 2 small coolant hoses). remove the valve and have someone start the car while you block the port to the valve on the intake. If that clears up the problem you can cut a piece of cardboard to mount in between the valve and intake.should straighten it out.

Idle irratic

Could be the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. I had a similar problem on my old integra in the winter and that was the problem. It's on the intake manifold and for the older integras i know is kinda common.

Idle probs

Check your idle control valve. You might have to replace it, 80-90 bucks new. Or see if there is an air leak from the intake manifold. had the same problem.
