There is something wrong with the clutch. Make sure that there is enough clutch fluid in it. For some reason the clutch isn't disengaging like it should, so you are grinding the gears in your transmission, making that awful noise. You want to get it looked at before you ruin your transmission by stripping the gears.

Try this disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core use a hose to backflush the core. Then reconnect and try again.

Is the noise in the front or middle? If it's in the front, it is most probably a wheel hub or differential case bearing. First I would check (or replace) all the gear lube in the transfer case and both differentials.
If the sound is under the middle of the jeep, it's probably a front output bearing in the transfer case.

Is there a very short term solution? I just want to get the jeep from my Dad's house home and I don't want to have it towed. Once i have it at my place I can do the more extensive work.

Still sounds like a bad radiator...new or from scrapyard? If you can't add coolant faster than a really slow dribble that's a big clue.
You can run the engine with the heater on high and the engine should not air-lock. I'd also remove the thermostat just to make sure it is not defective. Run the engine without it and see if it still overheats. Last, it is possible that your head gasket has failed, and engine compression is causing the overheat. I tend to think not only because the hose stays soft.
While it's running, also make sure that the lower hose is not "sucking in" if it is, replace it. On 4.0 engines you can also get the serpentine belt on wrong and it will drive the pump backwards. if you replaced the belt check that too.

Sounds "used and abused"!!! Likely you have more than one problem. Transfer case may need linkage adjustment or rebuild. Grinding from where? Wherever the noise is, look for a problem. Pulling can be from any number of front end component failures. Your best bet is to give everything a careful inspection or have a reliable shop go over it for you. There are so many variables in this I couldn't possibly give you any real answers!!!
