Problem with a 97 chevy 1500

One thing to check is fuel volume you can have press but not enough volume. also check for cranking vacuum you should have at least 3 to 5 in. hg or more . a engine has to have vacuum to crank. you can check it with a hand held gauge. if zero or close to zero this could be caused by clogged exhaust to a stuck open pcv to a leaking intake. does the motor turn over at the same speed it always has ? not faster or slower no noise ? check the plugs see if they are fouled, check to see if you have the intake with the spider in it? those go bad and no start spark fuel but no start. a bad egr you can use a hand held vacuum pump on it to check it. the egr on gm's can cause no starts. I hope I was able to give you some ideas of things to check.

You can remove the interlock off the gear shift or maybe spray some crc on it otherwise probably a loose wire or switch

with the info you have here it sounds like you have clucthes burnt , you will need to have it rebuilt , or replaced .

Hi, Well those shift cables have a slight adjustment at the trans. When I replaced the cable on my 96 i had to adjust it slightly. But before you adjust it make sure that the cable is routed the same way that it came out, if the cable is kinked or bent in any place it can cause it to bind and not go all the way down.
