GMC 2001 Sonoma 2.2L
Changed igmition module, plugs and wires, crank position sensor, Engine control module. I sprayed either into the inlet and no fire. I pulled a plug and shorted it out and I do Have spark. When I go to on with the ignition switch I can hear the fuel pump running. I then took tke fuel line off of the forward side of the fuel filter and I have a powerful stream of fuel coming out. What is next. The engine turns over but no fire. The engine originally shut down while i was driving and has not wanted to run since.
Same thing happened to my 2001 gmc sonoma 4 cyl. ext.cab it was timing chain was broke !!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like it could be plugged injectors or a timing problem.
To check the timing, I'll take it that you don't have a timing lite. Locate your # 1 cylinder remove the spark plug, and put a long thin screw driver into the hole, on the front of the engine there is a large pully at the very bottom this will have a little notch in it,mark the notch with white chalk ,paint, nail polish ect. just above that you will see a piece of metal or plastic with lines and numbers. slowly turn the engine by hand until the screw driver hits the highest point possible, heck it as you turn the engine as it will try to jam in the cylinder, when it is at the top check to see if your mark lines up with the timing mark for your engine. you will find this on a sticker usually on the under side of your hood. if they are close then your timing is close, if they are not close then you will need to rotate the engine one more complete revolution. Remember to rotate the engine by hand during this procedure. If the marks are still not cose then your timing chain , or belt has jumped or stretched. this is roughly a 4 hour job to changeit. If a mechanic shop does the timing belt chek they will charge roughly 1 hours labour. another thing you could try first is to loosen the bolt on your distributor a little bit and turn it in quarter inch increments and then try starting it before you try the first thing. as for the injectors you will want a mechanic to test them. not sure what they will charge for that. By any chance have you checked all of your maxi fuses, they should be locatd under the hood.

When you put your key in the ignition, make sure you don't have a small red light on in your instrumentation cluster. The red light is an indicator that your key fob or chip is not unlocking your system. The GMC and Chevrolet both had a similar problem. Try changing to a different ignition key.
Check the edu that's what I was told about mine. Have a 1999 gmc sonoma done same thing just cut off tried everything but edu that's next maybe will work for you
Spark plug calibration correct?
New secondary wires up to specifications?
Distributor located Hall Effect Switch working?
No computer codes? All fuse boxes Ko OK ?
No accesory alarm system jamming ignition?
Spray ether -starting fluid- at induction air filter. Start engine. If it run, is a fuel - injector problem. No start, is a mechanical-timing problem.

How should I approach the troubleshooting? Do recommend taking it to shop? Do think this could be costly?
I did check all the fuses before and after I changed the components that I mentioned. I will most likely tow it to a shop and see what they can do. I was hoping I would be able to troubleshoot it and repair it. I will let you know whtat fixes it.
Thanks for your help Dave Lehman
I have a 2001 GMC Sonoma with a 2.2l Flex L4. My Radiator had a leak, so I replaced it. Engine never seemed to overheat. When I installed the new radiator, I couldn't start the truck. I checked for spark and fuel, and both check out fine. I have spark and fuel. Firing order is right. Engine turns manually just fine. I'm stumped.
Did you ever find a fix for this? It looks like I have the same problem. Thanks.
after third gear u cant gain speed its gutless new fuel filter an plug wires an plugs what else could i try
mine was the timing chain was broke
On the fuel pump assembly there's a hose that probably has a leak
