95 gmc yukon tailights not working

Hey so I have a 95 gmc yukon. I really need help, because the guy I bought it from wired of his stereo horribly, and he said he heard a loud pop and the stereo stopped working along with the tail lights. First thing I thought was its just a fuse. I changed the fuse out and again POP the fuse blew, but before I had changed the fuse the dashlights wouldn't work and now they work, and its just the tail lights. Do I need to trace the wiring under the dash? I need a wiring diagram to know which is the tail light wires. All help appreciated thank you. Btw I thought about putting a new switch in it for the headlighst tailights etc. but I figured since the fuse kept blowing it would just ruin that if it was that.

have you checked all the bulbs? you can check the turn signal lamps by simply turning on the four way flasher. if all four lamps are flashing, then check the turn signal flasher unit. GM usually put them on the fuse box under the dash. check the owners manual.
check the brake lamp switch. it is mounted under the dash half way up on the brake pedal lever.

MY 1999 GMC YUKON THE FUSE FOR THE TAILIGHTS AND DASHE BLOWS EVERTIME I PUT NEW ONE IN AND LIGHTS GO OUT

The fuse is doing it's job. Saving the wiring harness from melting down into it's self and shorting out everthing next to it. No simple soultion. Some one need to get in there and find where the wire is shorted out. DON'T bypass or replace the fuse with some thing bigger. This will cause bigger problems & $$$$$$ down the road

Yes this is a common problem....the most likely source is you have a bad tailight socket....best advise is to replace both and you should be fine.

Gmc yukon

You have a dead short somewhere. Star by checking wires for signs of burning, soot melted insulation, paying close attention to red or pink wires. Start down by the starter and work your way back to the fuse box. Also check around all connections, especially any that go to the body or frame from the engine. It can be a tedious job and you may have to unwrap wire harness's to find it. If you've done any electrical work under the dash, like new stereo, check that as well.
These problems are usually under the hood or anywhere wires pass through the firewall. It should be a fairly thick,#10, wire. Most of your wireing is #14-16. Hope this helps.
