Fuel injection, could be a few things. Bad injectors, I forget the term for it but the unit that tells what injector to spray at the right time, or even regulator.

SOURCE: 2003 Silverado I bang on the gas tank and it

Just adding to the previous solution... When replacing the fuel pump, it make the job a lot easier to just pull the truck bed off. There are 6 bolts holding it on from underneath (also remove the gas cap screws) and it will lift off the frame. The bolts are very easy to reach with a 6 inch extension as long as you don't have duel exhaust in which case you will need a knuckle. Once the bed is off...you have free and easy access to the top of the fuel tank and pump. Use a brass punch to remove the retaining ring on top of the fuel tank. (a pump replacement kit can be rented at most auto parts stores).

What's missing ? Spark or fuel ? Just because you replaced the fuel pump and filter does not mean it's getting fuel . Did you check fuel pressure , the electrical circuit ? Did you hook up a spark tester to see if there is spark ? Watch this video from Eric the car guy . No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy Do you know what a fuel pump relay is ? Bmw diesel wont start

I'm guessing that you got an air lock in your fuel system as a result of your changing the fuel filter... I certainly don't know about a BMW diesel, but in most semi-truck engines, there is a priming pump just for the purpose of getting the air out ... and the fuel into.... the fuel system. I've even been known to fill the filters with diesel fuel before screwing them onto the base.. This is risky because of the possibility of allowing some foreign, unfiltered debris to get into your pump and/or injectors, just because of your putting unfiltered fuel into your filter... Check and see if there is some kind of priming pump close to the filter. Also, a possibility is that you may have an electric fuel pump.... as to where all you may need to do is loosen a fuel fitting on the pressure side of the pump and filter.... and allow the electric pump to purge the system of air.. I confess to my lack of knowledge on your BMW.... but, I do have some basic understanding of most diesel systems... Good luck..

Not getting fuil to injectors

i am assuming that you have a 4.3 V6 engine. check all fuses first and fuel pump relay, if u check fuel pressure with a mechanical fuel pressure tester.and every thing electrical is ok then remove fuel filter, careful fuel filter may have lots of pressure, wear safety faceshield.after removing fuel filter blow through it to see if it is restricted. if u can blow fuel out easily it's o.k. if not change it. it may start but fuel pump may have sustained some damage, if no start after this pump probably toast. replace it.

A 460 engine that acts like its not getting enough fuel. Will start but runs as if only on half the cylinders missing badly or such.

Check your running fuel pump pressure. If (as I suspect) it's too low, first try changing your fuel filter. After changing the filter, recheck the running fuel pump pressure. If still low, check you fuel pump pressure regulator. If OK, you may need a new fuel pump.

Also probably would be a good idea to replace you air filter.

Good luck!

IF NOT REPLACE FUSE AND CHECK THE WIRE TO PUMP.IF PUMP IS GETTING POWER..REPLACE FUEL FILTER FIRST.IF IT DONT HELP.COULD BE THE ELECTRIC LOW PRESSURE PUMP. FAULTY. IT PUMPS DIESEL FUEL IT INTO INJECTION PUMP TO BE PRESSURIZED TIMED AND INJECT.SEE IF LOW PRESSURE PUMP DONT WORK THE WHOLE ENGINE WONT RUN.THE INJECTION PUMP NEED FUEL FROM LOW PRESSURE ELECTRIC PUMP TO RUN ENGINE.

Fuel filter on a 6.2 diesel

You need to install an electric fuel pump to lift the fuel from the tank to the mechanical pump. You can turn off the electric pump after starting or use it when bleeding the lines after changing the fuel filter. You can start the truck after a few minutes instead of a few days. I know from experience and fought that problem for years.
