SOURCE: wont start security light stays on
My girlfriend had the same problem, so we took it to the local dealer in Costa Mesa, CA and were told she needed a new engine to the tune of 5K. We decided to take it to our local mechanic and he discovered that the “ignition control box”, which apparently has the antitheft controls too and shuts the flow of gas to the engine because it thinks its being stolen when it malfunctions, was causing the starting problem. Once, the box was replaced it worked fine. Because the IBC controls antitheft, it will need to be “reprogrammed” be someone that has access to the proper equipment or the dealer. I think the whole thing was about $800 - $900. Sure beats $5,000
Hope this helps,
B

OK>>> I have a Chevy Impala in which I was able to permanently disable my factory alarm system. I did some checking and your car has a somewhat similar system called VATS but there are differences which make it harder to disable. What I would recommend is a website called allexperts.com Click on cars (there are several categories) click on cars a second time and then there will be a listing of all kinds of models. Click on Oldsmobile/Buick and then go to view past answers. There is a lot of information there about your problem and some possible solutions. I am just not familiar enough with the VATS system to tell you authoritatively myself any solutions but I always want to try to point others in the right direction. I hope this helps. There was a lot of info there. Thanks...
