1994 Volvo 940 Station Wagon timing belt

My father is working on a 1994 Volvo 940 station wagon(2.3L engine, single overhead cam) and when he started it, the timing belt jumped and now he has to get it back in time. There are no manuals for this particular model, so he needs to know how to do this. Can you help?

I hope you've solved the problem by now, but there are alignment marks on the crank shaft (top pulley), idler (lower side), and cam shaft (smaller, bottom pulley) which should be aligned with stationary marks on the timing belt rear cover.

The belt has marks that align with the aforementioned marks (lines). The double marks on the belt align with the camshaft marks and the single marks with the others.

Loosen the tensioner clamp (nut) to allow the spring loaded tensioner to press on the belt and retighten the nut.

Rotate the crank shaft (clockwise, probably two revolutions) and make sure the pulley marks realign to the marks on the cover (they don't have to realign with the marks on the belt).

Rotate the crank shaft a full revolution once the belt is on and check that alignment is preserved.

Periodically loosen and retension the tensioner nut (access through a hole in the cover) to ensure that tension is maintained as the belt relaxes.

Difficult to change out rear main oil seal/gaskets on 1994 940 non( turbo) station wagon?

In general, the answer is yes. I have not changed one in quite a while but almost always you have to lift the engine to get the oil pan off. You need the oil pan off to loosen the main bearing caps.

Need to know where the marks need to be for timeing belt on a 1998 ford escort wagon with a 4 cylinder. Thank You,

You didn't say which 4 cylinder engine you have, whether it is a single or dual cam engine? I am assuming since it is a station wagon it is the single cam engine.
On camshaft gear you should see a little arrow or pointer in one of the windows of the gear,it should be at the top and should line up with a dot on the head. The crankshaft pulley groove should be at the top and it should line up with a dot on the block or TDC/ 0 on the guage.
