I have an automatic / sport gear box in my 3.0 ltr A6. When the car is first started it does not go into reverse properly and revs high. If I have been driving for a while and put into reverse it works OK. I have no trouble in forward gears. Also sometimes my gearbox will not shift into sport mode and also I see the PDRN letters flashing but again this is intermitant.

Obtain a fault code from the obd plug, go from there. If there are no strange noises then control unit is faulty. Stupid thing- is the fluid level ok?

Known problem with gearbox control units. High failure rate. Gearbox lights flahing. May not select reverse gear. Take to dealer as may get some goodwill on this.

It appears you have a Forward Clutch FAILURE. Replace the trans after you get it diagnosed and verified by a professional technician. By the way, do you have a Check Engine light? If so, what is the diagnostic code? The dealership can scan the system and find any codes which may have been stored in the TCM (Transmission Control Module). If there were any 'Incorrect Gear Ratio" codes, it's most probably the trans itself.

Unless your shade tree mechanic is an Audi expert, go to the dealer who has all the books and diagrams that tell the tech exactly where to look. The other guy may want to replace something just to troubleshoot and the factory tech should know exactly what to replace or which plug is loose.
