SOURCE: 2002 ford expedition: no turn signals

Hello,
Ok well your the lucky owner of an Expediton. I have a few of these trucks in my fleet. The common problem in almost ALL Ford vehicles is the multifunction switch located to the right of your column which is the main switch for you wipers, turn signals, and high beams. Under the plastic column cover is three phillips screws. Remove them and unscrew the tilt lever on the right of the column by spining it with a tight grip counter clockwise. Gently pull the lower cover off and you will see two screws and a large gray plug or it may be black. The internal plastic switch pawl breaks and requires the complete ASSY needs replacing. Remove the plug by pulling out on the plugs tang and pull down on the plug being sure not to pull on the wires for this could create a contact issue later. Remove the screws holding the multi function/ turn signal switch. Replace the switch in reverse of removal. Test the operation before you assemble the column cover.

A common problem on the 2003 focus are the electrics, i had a problem recently where the displays where not functioning, i took off the panel, checked the iso connector and before putting it back in i gave it a quick spray with wd40 and it al seemed to work, been in contact with the garage and for a new unit with callibration you are looking about £140 or so with labour and parts

Left turn signal while lights are on both signals flash like the hazard lights are on. also the left turn indicator on the dash remains lit.2002 focus

You will most likely find either a poor ground, that allows current to run back through other circuits, or a bulb problem. invoke the problem (turn on headlights) then remove one bulb at a time, at the front and rear. After each removal, go back to dash and observe...

While removing, check grounding of the fixtures, as you go..

Air Bag Light, Brake Light, & ABS Light came on in the dashboard.

Check and see if your alternator is charging
Low voltage will cause those lights to come on, as the computer is shutting down.

To check your alternator you will need a volt meter... WITH the engine running you should have about 14 volts coming out. IF NOT you need to replace the Alternator!

Driver's headlight is dim; wipers only work if headlight is off

Sounds like the jolt from the barrier has caused a bad ground to occur. Look for a bad ground wire around the left headlamp in or around the headlight bucket.
Tighten or replace the bad ground wire. A poor contact will cause the headlight to light dimly.

Electrical System Problems in '02 F250 Diesel

Does the truck have daytime driving lights ? Sounds like a short , maybe the switch inside the steering column . Turn signal , wiper , headlamp dimmer ,or multifuction switch . Without testing this is just a guess . Find a wiring diagram at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html there free , get yourself a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter an test the B+ volt into an out of the switch . moving dimmer from low to high an turning on the turn signals etc.... Suggest you watch a few videos on youtube for automotive electrical testing , how to use a wiring diagram etc.... disconnect circuits at the mutifunction switch .

Measure the resistance between multifunction switch C202a pin 44, circuit 44 (LB), harness side, and electronic flasher connector pin 1, circuit 44 (LB), harness side; and between multifunction switch C202a pin 44, circuit 44 (LB), harness side, and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the multifunction switch and the electronic flasher, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the multifunction switch and ground?

Carry out the multifunction switch component test; Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 149 for schematic and connector information.
.

  • Is the multifunction switch OK?
Yes INSTALL a new electronic flasher. TEST the system for normal operation.

No INSTALL a new multifunction switch; REFER to Section 211-05 . TEST the system for normal operation.
Testing the electrical circuits of all the system not functioning properly is how you go about finding the problem .

  1. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.

    Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
    • Headlamp switch
    • Multifunction switch
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 3 (30A)

    • DRL jumper (if equipped)
    • RAP module (if equipped)
    • Central security module (if equipped)
    • Light sensor amplifier (if equipped)
