About that Vette you are going to see on Saturday, check the trans oil. Look for anything unusual in the color. Smell it and see if you detect any strange odor like a burnt smell. Also, check the engine oil carefully, too. Look at the brake pedal very closely. It can tell you a lot about how the drive operated the car. Was he ******* the brake? Look closely at the lower part of the quarter panels and see if there is any damage like large nicks or dents. Take a look at the radiator front - is it clean without any damage? These are some of the areas you can check to get a better idea of the condition and use of the car.

SOURCE: whining noise from front of 2003 impala.higher

Apparently the whine is car speed related and not engine speed. I'm surprised that you didn't say anything about checking the wheel bearings?

Sounds like it could be the wheel bearing. Jack up the car, and see if the tire feels loose when pushing in and out at the top and bottom of the tire. That;s the most obvious way to check. But many times, the bearing is tight, but still bad.

SOURCE: I'm trying to locate the vats module in a 90 corvette.

You can easily bypass the entire VATS system. There is a clear write-up here on this website:http://newrockies.ca. This was the only thing that saved my Park Avenue with the same security system.

I recently purchased a 1992 corvette with the 6 speed transmission, it has 85,000 miles and runs good. I have noticed that it feels like something is rubbing every 3 seconds or so and you can lightly feel...

The drive shaft is likely out of balance and is going through harmonic phases. This will come and go at different rates of time as compared to the speed of the vehicle. Now, you may have a bent drive-shaft or a bad u-joint. Just get it checked out before the driveshaft does damage to the really great looking fiberglass. Ha Ha.

I have a 1988 rxt that was running great when it was new, at 30,000 miles, it was parked and sat indoors for about 10 years. with it being a rotary engine, what would i be looking at replacing to get it...

for starters -- the battery is going to be shot,, and the gas in the fuel tank is going to be bad,, and yes' look at all the hoses and belts for cracks and splits. it would also be a good idea to change the oil and spark plugs. check the tires for cracks and also check the air filter box and filter.
if you have any troubles along the way -- please feel free to write back and ask me.

Wheel vibrations at 75+ mph

Most computer controlled tire balancing machines which are in use today only balance tires to between 65/70 miles an hour. To get them balanced to a higher speed you might want to call a few auto performance shops and see if they balance tires to a higher speed. At higher speeds it takes very little in the way of an off balanced tire to really set up a vibration so shake.

Usaully the shifting is computer controlled, and sounds more like a solenoid valve not functioning properly. Take it to another shop that does tranny work, and see what they say. Don't tell them that the dealer told you that you needed a trans, as they will probably agree right off the bat and try and sell you one too.

How do you remove the leather gearshift cover on a 6 speed 2002 corvette

the six speed in these cars is a t56 tremec trans. the gearshift knob on these are just threaded onto the shifter lever. it is regular right handed threads so just grip it tightly and turn it counter clockwise to remove the shift knob. if you are only trying to remove the leather about the only way would be to cut it off but underneath it does not look good and you have to buy a whole knob not just the leather cover to replace it.
