Assuming your parking brake is fully released, you may want to check and see if you are low on brake fluid, as this illuminates the red brake lamp also. Normal brake wear cam reduce the amount of fluid in the master cylinder, but have the system checked if this is the case.

The serpentine belt on 1996 Deville broke. Attempted to pull car 1 mile home but it would not move. Can anyone tell me why and how to get it to move?

It should move freely with the transmission in neutral and parking brake released. The parking brake may be stuck engaged - it should release if you put the transmission in drive first (manually check that the parking brake pedal has released).

1998 cadillac deville stuck in park

Simple thing is that the brake sensor is not reading that you have you foot on the brake pedal. Not sure where it is on your Caddy, however. Check to see if your brake lights come on, on some cars I believe the two were connected.

Brake lights

No, not that switch, but the brake light switch on the brake pedal. It may just need adjusting to turn off when brake pedal is not pressed.
The neutral safety switch is in your starting circuit to keep car from starting when not in park or neutral.

98 cadillac passenger brake light is out

The fault is probably blown brake light bulb/s.
Replace these bulbs, these maybe dual filament bulbs, one for the park light and the other for the brake light.

My 2005 DeVille won't come out of park. This just happened today. I drove it early this morning. I went to get into it this afternoon, I started the car, stepped on the brake and the shift lever won't come...

Have someone check if your brake lights are working
The brake light switch and shifter lock are usually one switch
If your brake lights are not working your brake switch needs to be replaced

Hope this helps, it it does please leave feedback and vote Thank You and Good Luck

Emergency brake is engaged and i cant figure out how to release it? its a 1989 cadillac sedan deville

Hello, Look up under the dash next to the inside of the car, between the foot pedal for the park brake assembly, on the park brake assembly there should be a short lever, it may even be yellow on the end. pull it back toward you, that should release the park brake. The System is suppose to release automatically when you put the car in gear. It works off vacuum, the switch is mounted on top of the steering column and the actuator is mounted on the park brake assembly

How do you shut off brake light on dash on a 1989 Cadillac sedan deville?

the park brake must be fully released if not the light will come on w/key on eng off reach down and pull back on the park brake pedal if light don't go out then it may be the brake fluid level switch located on the bottom of the brake fluid reservior. the switches were a high failure rate

if you look at the pedal for the emergency brahe there is a small lever that will allow you to by-pass the vacuum operated release, check for vacuum at the hose that goes into the release

Car is stuck in park

Push the brake with the key on, then shift. There is a electric safety on the brake so kids don't knock it out of gear.
