well, usually in this case, if your coolant resovior is full and you are still holding psi in your system, it is a bad thermostat. what the thermostat does is when the engine block heats up, the coils of the thermostat expand and let coolant through to cool the engine block. so what might be happening is your thermostat is bad, and not letting coolant through, which will cause your motor to over heat.
Testimonial: "THANKS SO MUCH!! because i couldn't understand why it was still getting up there on the guage. Sometimes it won't, sometimes it will."

SOURCE: How do I install throttle
Hi,
I have a 2004 Alero ( similar procedure in your model as well ) and I just figured out today and replaced my
throttle position sensor. I'm not sure what the black plastic "box" is
called that is above the throttle assembly...but I had to remove that to
get to the throttle position sensor underneath. If you can locate the
two wires that control the throttle assembly...then the throttle
position sensor is on the other side of the throttle assembly. I had to
remove the large tube that went from the air filter to the black plastic
"box" above the throttle assembly. Also disconnected anything else
connected to that black plastic "box". Then pulled that "box" up and
right there on the left side of the throttle assembly was the throttle
assembly sensor. Here is a web page with a picture that helped me figure
out where it was :-

Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
SOURCE: where is the crank shaft
on the 3.4 liter engine, it's behind the harmonic balancer--you have to remove the crankshaft pulley/balancer to see it.
if you have the 2.4 liter, it's just above the oil filter:
