I recently bought a 91 Ram 50. Seemed like a decent small truck. 1st,the crazy turn key on, pull light switch back, then start the truck routine is annoying. Why did Dodge or Mitsubishi do this?
OK. I went to start the truck this morning, when I pulled the light switch back I heard a loud clicking sound(A switch, seleniod of some sort?)coming from my right under the dash. it clicked every time pulled it back and the truck would not start.I repeated this several times and finally it starts, idles OK , but idles rough in drive. Very rough in drive with brake applied. I drive about a mile down the road and without warning the truck went completely dead. No lights, nothing. I tried to restart several times without luck. Then inexplicably, the lights came back on and I was able to start and drive the truck home. Is there a switch, relay or a seleniod that needs to be replaced? I dont know where to start with this one...
My ram 50 starts just like any other vehicle, (no light switch pulling whatso ever), it sounds like somebody haas rewired something wrong or you have a loose connection and when you hit a large enough bump it cuts your power. Start it up and find a speed bump somewhere and drive over it enough to give your truck a jolt and see if it dies.
