Won't start after sitting for 6-8 months

when the battery died it probably activated the immobiliser system. Try using a scanner to reset the immobiliser.

You may have internal engine damage . broken cam or can.. try to turn the engine manually with a wrench to see if there is any problem while rotate it. In the cold weather when you start engine especially been sitting for too long, engine part need to be lubricated fast otherwise damage it will occur. check and smell the engine oil for strange condition

put foot flat to floor DONT pump the accelerater pedal turn on ignition turn over engine as soon as it starts take foot off pedal happy motoring..

you have spark at the plugs ..thats something

spray stay you mug
into the throttle body see if the motor will cough

tank needs draining and have fresh fuel
fuel pump has a filter and fuel relay

crack the fuel line connection to the rail to see if there is fuel reaching the rail and correct pressure

if sitting 6 years.. not being run regularly
do a compression test
lifters may be stuck
rings may have lost tension

Try this next time you start it. Turn the key to the run position, do not start the engine. Wait 3-5 seconds and turn the key off. Turn the key right back to the on position and wait for 3-5 seconds. Turn the key off. Repeat the above one more time. Now try to start. If it starts right up you have a fuel supply problem. Either the fuel pump is bleeding off or the fuel pressure regulator is leaking. Pumping the pedal is doing nothing besides buying time for the fuel system to pressurize. Not sure about this, but you might want to find your fuel "reset" button for the fuel pump. It's usually located in the trunk.

You say that it's getting fuel to AND from the filter (?); there might not be enough pressure to get to the injectors.

Try turning the key on for a about 5 seconds, but don't try to start it. This actuates the fuel pump.. Do no pump the gas pedal. Turn the key off, then try to start it.

If it doesnt start, turn the key on but don't try to start it. Pump the gas pedal 2-3 times, then try to start. You usually should not pump the pedal, but in this case it might just need a little "kicker" to get gas through the line.

If it doesn't start repeat this procedure. Hopefully it starts.

Note: Never crank a car over for more than 4-5 seconds. It's hard on the starter and will wear your battery down really fast.

Well, it may not be getting fuel. Turn the key to "on" but not start. this will activate the fuel pump.
After a few seconds, then try to start. If it doesn't start, turn the key off. Then turn the key on and pump it a few time---only a few. Take your foot off the pedal and wait a few secs, then try to start again.

It used to be we could "prime" the carburator to get a car going but nowadays cars are fuel-injected and don't have carburators!

Make sure your battery is fully charged. Sitting that long would have weakened it. It could still turn over but not have enough juice to engage the starter fully to get the engine going. Did you try jumping it?

Anytime you plan to let a car sit for a while you should use a fuel stabalizer to prevent the gas from going bad. After you do get it started fill the tank and add some fuel injector cleaner. Fuel injectors get clogged easily when the car sits for awhile.

Sounds like you have bad gas. Gas goes bad after a couple months of sitting. I've gone through plenty of other options when trying to figure out this same problem, and it turned out to be the easiest problem of having old gas. Try running fresh gas straight into the fuel pump and see if it turns over then.
